My steam downloads are about half the speed of what I am getting on windows. I changed my dns to 8.8.8.8 that sped it up from a crawl to about half the speed are there any other tips or tricks to speed up my downloads

It might be the case that some third-party applications or even a windows service running in the background might be preventing Steam from being able to utilize the required resources for its proper functioning. If the application is hogging a lot of resources and you notice there is high CPU, GPU, or DISK usage by a particular application on your computer, Steam might be running slow.

Some people complained that the issue goes away temporarily when the Web cache is cleared from Steam as we indicated in the first step in this article but it comes back after some time. Therefore, in this step, we will be exploring a permanent solution to this issue by permanently deleting the cached files on our computer and then deleting a folder from steam. For that:

Slow steaming is the practice of operating transoceanic cargo ships, especially container ships, at significantly less than their maximum speed.[1] In 2010, an analyst at the National Ports and Waterways Institute stated that nearly all global shipping lines were using slow steaming to save money on fuel.[2][3]

Slow steaming was adopted in 2007 in the face of rapidly rising fuel oil costs, which was 700 USD per tonne between July 2007 to July 2008.[4] According to Maersk Line, who introduced the practice in 2009 to 2010,[5][6] slow steaming is conducted at 18 knots (33 km/h; 21 mph).[1] Speeds of 14 to 16 kn (26 to 30 km/h; 16 to 18 mph) were used on Asia-Europe backhaul routes in 2010.[7] Speeds under 18 kn (33 km/h; 21 mph) are called super slow steaming.[1] Marine engine manufacturer Wärtsilä calculates that fuel consumption can be reduced by 59% by reducing cargo ship speed from 27 knots to 18 kn (33 km/h; 21 mph), at the cost of an additional week's sailing time on Asia-Europe routes.[8] It adds a comparable 4 to 7 days to trans-Pacific voyages.[7][9]

Mærsk Line's E-class container ships such as the Emma Mærsk can save 4 metric kilotons of fuel oil on a Europe-Singapore voyage by slow steaming.[5] At typical fuel prices of US$600-700 per tonne,[4] this works out to a saving of US$2.4-2.8 million on a typical one-way voyage. Maersk's Triple E-class container ships were designed for slow steaming and have less powerful engines than their predecessors.[5]

Although lowering speeds reduces the power requirements, the overall benefits of speed reduction may be limited by other factors, such as economically viable total voyage time, and the fact that a ship's engine and propeller are designed to operate within a certain RPM range. Steaming too slowly may place the engine and propeller outside their most efficient range, and will therefore begin to counteract the benefits.[12] Also, there are time-dependent costs, such as crew wages and charter rates, that will increase if the voyage is longer. Although some ships are being put into service that are designed to steam most efficiently at slower speeds, the great cost of building a ship and need to remain competitive means that radical changes are unlikely until conditions merit such a risk.[13][14] Ma Shuo, a professor of maritime economics and policy at World Maritime University (WMU) in Sweden, has undertaken research to assess the relationship between freight rates and optimal speed, confirming that as freight rates rise with market conditions, so does the economically optimal speed.[13]

The tradeoff between fuel cost savings against the increased costs of personnel, insurance and inventory due to the longer voyage duration is a significant logistical issue. Commercial vessels seek to adhere reliably to schedules; if a ship is planned to slow steam, it may normally speed up should it encounter en route delays (such as bad weather or deviation) so as to recover its original scheduled arrival time. The initiative to balance cost, duration, emissions and risk is supported by the EC-funded research project SYNCHRO-NET.[15]

Smart steaming is a strategy by which the vessel speed is dynamically optimised based on the real-time state of the sea, weather and the destination port - for example, if there is congestion at the port there is little point in rushing to get there at full speed simply to then wait for a berth for days. Instead the ship can go more slowly to conserve fuel and still berth at the same time.

Smart steaming has the potential to deliver many benefits. For example the SYNCHRO-NET project[17] has reported examples of up to 30% reduction in fuel usage for the ship, which, broadly speaking, means a similar reduction in cost and greenhouse gas emissions.

Technically and operationally, smart steaming presents several challenges. Ship control systems have to be more sophisticated, and multi-objective optimization techniques are needed which can respond to changing conditions (e.g. weather, sea state, port status). Improvements in ship/port communications are also needed, as well as new commercial and legal agreements between relevant stakeholders: ship operator, ship owner, port/terminal operator and the customer/freight forwarder whose goods are being carried by the ship.

"Hello, all poor people who are suffering from an extremely slow download of Diablo IV. I had a problem where, even though I have around 500 Mbps bandwidth download speed, my download speed would range from a maximum of 50 kb/s to 4 mb/s, randomly jumping between those numbers.

It worked but only up to 13%, but always something, early download slowed down after 4%. Thanks to the fact that at least a little bit of solving works. I actually noticed that support is not interested in this problem.

I recently joined Virgin and have had flawless internet via my PS5 (Ethernet CAT6a), Nintendo Switch (wireless), Virgins TV box (little square thing), but my laptop (wireless 500MB capability aware) is downloading on steam at 900KB/s-1MB/s (Battle.net, and steam confirmed these speeds)

Hi Regina, do you leave the lid on the saucepan for 10 to 15 minutes after the cooking time? The rice needs additional time to steam. Another issue might be that the flame under the rice is still a little too high. If that is the lowest that your flame on your stove will go, add a few tablespoons of water to the rice. Hope this helps.

If you are seeing slower speeds when downloading then this points to an issue most likely with your network or how your ISP is routing your data. I tested this at home a couple weeks back when someone else posts about the speeds being throttled and was hitting download speeds well in excess of 30MBS. If you are still seeing slow downloads then this you can try the following steps:

Post #7:" that's odd as I have Uplay, steam, GOG, and Battlenet running one at a time to see what i'm getting there, and its about 8-10mbps and I have a 100mbps connection. Origin is the only one under performing by 600%-900% which is a huge slap in the face to me as a customer. I have origin on all 3 of my firewalls exception list, ports are all forwarded, I did a full network reset in windows, and I have reset my router and modem. I also happen to have a network engineer from apple sitting next to me to analyze this situation, It's clearly not a problem on my part."

@Tasteful-Chaos@Camperfield_X@ If you are seeing slow download speeds then this would point to an issue with your system or network. If you have not ensured that your network is set correctly then you may see issues with speeds, I downloaded Battlefield 4 earlier this week and was hitting over 25 MB for the full download. Please try the steps above to see if they help

Nah man I have all sorts of issues with origin but, as of right now this slow download issue is probably the worst. I have tried your method and I'm still stuck at 1 mb/sec. So you got any other ideas. Because I keep going to different threads with you posting this and still see people complaining its not working and id have to agree with the guys before me. We shouldn't have to go through all this just to properly download something. unless this is internet simulator 1998.
