Hello WannaBeasts -
Race season is winding down and many of you are going very long distances!! Remember to use these last few weeks to practice clothing choices and food/fuel. It's difficult to know exactly what the weather will bring, but we have had varied temps and conditions, so hopefully you have a good idea of what works well and what doesn't.
Below are a couple of race day tips.....
- Don't over dress. It's hard to refrain from piling on layers or winter weather gear if the temps are chilly on race day morning, but it's important to dress for about 15-20 degrees warmer when racing.
- Throw away clothes are your friends!!! Have an old sweatshirt, gloves, hat, etc. to wear while you are standing around waiting. A large leaf/yard bag or poncho works well to keep your body heat inside while you are waiting around too. Toss them at the start and you're good to go. Many races actually pick up discarded clothing and donate to a local charity.
- Be careful at the expo. There are lots of food samples, but try not to over do it. You have no idea how some of those protein bars, energy drinks, etc. will settle on your stomach, so best to just skip them. Also, try not to spend too much time walking around exploring the expo or the city the night before your race.
- Sightseeing can be so fun....But not the day before! Plan your sightseeing the afternoon of your race as you will want to stretch those tight legs a bit after your race, but not before.
Here's the plan for Saturday.
