Thisis CS50x , Harvard University's introduction to the intellectual enterprises of computer science and the art of programming for majors and non-majors alike, with or without prior programming experience. An entry-level course taught by David J. Malan, CS50x teaches students how to think algorithmically and solve problems efficiently. Topics include abstraction, algorithms, data structures, encapsulation, resource management, security, software engineering, and web development. Languages include C, Python, SQL, and JavaScript plus CSS and HTML. Problem sets inspired by real-world domains of biology, cryptography, finance, forensics, and gaming. The on-campus version of CS50x , CS50, is Harvard's largest course.

Microsoft PowerPoint: Learn how to use design templates for slides and how to add WordArt, clip art and animations. We'll also discuss how to save, view and print a presentation, as well as posting your presentation online for others to view.
Intermediate Microsoft Excel: Learn intermediate Excel skills not covered in the introductory class including advanced charts, filtering and subtotaling data, conditional formatting, concatenating text and splitting text into columns, using logic-based functions, printing worksheets with repeating header rows and columns, and PivotTables and PivotCharts.
Google Drive: Google Drive is a free online tool for creating and storing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Google Drive allows multiple users to work on a document at once.

Within the ServiceNow CMDB hierarchy, the Computer class, which is extended from the broader Hardware class, is the parent class for computing devices: servers, desktops, laptops, and handheld units. Extending from the Computer class is the Personal Computer class. Why might it be necessary or maybe beneficial to store records there instead of the base Computer class? Maybe there are additional attributes available on the cmdb_ci_pc_hardware table that are needed to properly manage CIs throughout their operational lifecycle?

Our classes are designed to help you learn practical, basic computer skills, and are taught by caring and dedicated volunteer teachers. These skills will help you perform many online tasks on your own, such as looking for helpful resources, applying for jobs and services, keeping in touch with friends and family, and many other activities that require basic computer literacy skills. A wheelchair-accessible computer workstation is available at each computer center. Many computers also have ZoomText software which magnifies the screen image for individuals with visual disabilities, and a voice component so that the page can be read aloud.
Gale Courses: free courses, mostly 6 weeks long, offer introductory, intermediate, and advanced computer tutorials in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access and many more. Complete the course and receive a record of completion certification.
TechCentral conducts classes for the public on a variety of computer-related topics. Classes are held in TechCentral, the TechCentral Computer Lab, and at the local neighborhood branches. Classes are free and open to the public. Many classes are offered as four or five part series and take about one month to complete.
How do I register for classes?

How many classes can I take?
You can take as many classes as you like, but you cannot register for the same series twice in one month; you are still welcome as a walk-in and can attend the class if there is space available.
What if I miss a class?
You may attend the class later in the month if it is offered. You can also pick up a handout and exercises from the website or from staff. If you know in advance that you are unable to attend a class please call Tech Central at

Do I need to bring anything?
We only require that you bring your thinking cap. For most classes, handouts are provided and in rare instances classes may require other items. Please check class descriptions for more details.
Shasta Public Libraries has wireless internet access available at no charge to anyone with WiFi-enabled laptops and wireless devices. Public WiFi access is available at all three branches. (WiFi users must configure their own equipment)
