Hi again!

I've borrowed myself (all respect to gamboita for his work!!) a Debian 7 Wheezy image from

https://www.miniand.com/forums/forums/development/topics/debian-wheezy-lxde-armhf-build

and adapted it to run on Wandboard Quad. After changing /etc/sources.list a little bit and doing a apt-get dist-updgrade this is now a full Debian 8 Jessie (testing) armhf Wbquad . :-)
The image which will fit on a 4GB card!
I installed some additional ferures and added the Multimedia-Repository (http://www.deb-multimedia.org/) as well so you now have many useful tools like Handbrake available directly via apt or synaptic.
Currently Features enabled are now:

    Debian Wheezy with LXDE Desktop
    Kernel 3.0.35 Wand6
    Changed I/O Scheduler to NOOP
RootFS partition set as journal data=writeback
Commonly used folders mounted as tmpfs
    Midori browser with Gnash plugin
    Config utilities
Changed minimum speed for ondemand governor
Support for some USB WLAN adapters
x11vnc and SSH running on background
    Auto Login enabled
Sound enabled on HDMI (not tested)
    Support for iptables (not tested)
    ####
    LAMP installed
    SAMBA installed
    PHPmyadmin installed
    Webmin Installed
    Handbrake Multimedia Converter installed
    ###

Ive kept the logins at their default: Login debian Password: debian ; Login root password: toor (you can become root over "sudo -s" or "su" )
                                and added: mysql - root:mysqladmin
                            phpmyadmin : phpmyadmin:phpmyadmin

everything else can be taken from the orignial (miniand) post.

You can download it here:

http://www16.zippyshare.com/v/94575658/file.html
http://www16.zippyshare.com/v/58932133/file.html

So i hope this is useful for somebody else !

Hi,

I would like to ask if your image support flash videos ?

Some time ago, I remember dont be able to install flash in
wandbord.org ubuntu image.

Anyway, thank you for your image. I will download and when I have
some time, I will install in my test partition.

To be honest, i don't Know, i am configuring this image by myself right now.

As written the multimedia armhf repository is enabled with many tools, but there is no hardware accelleration right now. If there is a flash package when using synaptic it should work. Question is how fast ....

Btw, is there anywhere a tutorial Howto implement/ enable gpu accelleration ?

Thanks for the hard work!

Hi,

it does not depend on the image if bluetooth or wifi is working , but on the used kernel.
this image currently uses robert nelsons kernel 3.0.35_wand6.
I dont know if the kernel modules are included or not i am using a standard lan connection.

Hi

here is a updated kernel with its modules to 3.0.35_wand6.2 that gets rid of all those "CANNOT SET SOC VOLTAGE BACK!!!" messages
you should install it while your wbquad is running with the ./install script inside the archive. then just reboot and youre done...

Hi Martin.

I would like to make you a question about modules and firmware. Searching in internet I could see that the driver for bcm4329 is included in the kernel from 2.6.X version, and the only thing to make the wifi and bluetooth work is the firmware files.

So I opened the official demo image of ubuntu for extracting the firmware files, because in this image wifi works. When I tried to paste the files in the microSD image you did, I found I have no /lib/firmware folder like in others imgs, so my question is: in your microSD files, where do i must to put the firmware files for making wifi work?

Thanks in advance

The Firmware files need to be inthe same location as in the Ubuntu image (Ubuntu is debian based) . You can try and copy the whole firmware folder and place it inside /lib.
But i cannot tell you if the required modules are already inside the kernel,or if it needs to te rebuild first. Just try it. The worst thing to happen is that it doesn't work! ;)

Dotes your images has a different layout?

Hi,

if there is no lib dir when you do "cd /lib" there is moething seriously wrong ! -Are you sudo ? "sudo -s"
I doubt Debian can launch without /lib , so take a closer look!
when i do "ls /" it looks like this:

martin@wbq:~$ ls /
bin   dev  home  lost+found  mnt  proc  run   srv  tmp  var
boot  etc  lib   media       opt  root  sbin  sys  usr  webmin-setup.out

Hi all again!!
I can confirm that copying the /lib/firmware folder from official demo image to this debian 8 one, makes wifi and bluetooth works fine!! Now I think everything in debian is working in the right way!

Thanks Martin again!!

Hi Martin again.
Please, excuse me for this offtopic.
I´m using this debian image and I love it, but I have a very serious security risk. X11vnc is always starting up without a password or an encrypted connection.

Using X11vnc server in menú -> internet has no effect in setting a password because de server has been already opened. The only thing I can do is to run x11vnc twice throught this gui, and then the server reject all my connection petitions.

Can you tell me where is the script where you initialize x11vnc for changing the input parameters and add a password?

Thanks in advance

I have no clue how X11vnc gets initiated in this (basic) image !! ;)

But this issue solved  itself for me when i did :  "apt-get install gnome" and selected gdm as default diaplay manager ,and after that youll need to login and start x11vnc manually with this command once every reboot (or gnome logout) which i think is quite handy:

/usr/bin/x11vnc -xkb -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -noxrecord -noxfixes -noxdamage -rfbauth /etc/x11vnc.pass -forever -bg -rfbport 5900 -o /var/log/x11vnc.log

also set a password for vnc before :  x11vnc -storepasswd /etc/x11vnc.pass

you can also maybe take a look here : http://linux-sunxi.org/VNC

Ive uploaded a new version of my debian image ,now with full Gnome, Owncloud, Aria2 with webinterface, Truecrypt with Gui (just launch with "truecrypt" inside Gnome-terminal), full setup ampache, Samba setup, new kernel wand 6.3 and some more tweaks
The Download size increased (naturally) but it still fits on a 4GB card. ip is fixed now via network manager (gnome) to 192.168.1.155, so change this if it doesnt fit your homenet. VNC is available but not running from boot. to vnc in open a terminal (ssh/putty)
and do "sudo vnc" to get a permanent running vnc session waiting for login until you logout again from gnome (pw=debian). to use aria2-downloader make sure the download-folder as defined in /etc/aria2/aria2.conf exists ,or aria will refuse to start.

The running webservices can be accessed by doing :

    Owncloud ---> /wbquad/owncloud
    Ampache ---> /wbquad/ampache
    Aria2       ----> /wbquad/aria2
    Webmin  ----> https://wbquad:10000
    Phpmyadmin ---> /wbquad/phpmyadmin

(if your dns is not working correctly change wbquad to your ip-address 192.168.1.155/owncloud)
all passwords and usernames are stored inside /var/www/pass
Default login is debian:debian or root:debian

there is no flash support for ARM processors because of interrupted support by Adobe.
But if you are interested in opening youtube videos, you can use VLC as well.

I see the same lines in my dmesg but bluetooth is not working with 3.11 and wb-quad. Moreover, I see this lines on my notebook which does not have any bluetooth adapter.

Hi,

I'm a bit ashamed to ask this question but maybe you can make me save a lot of time.
How to burn your image to a SDCard ?
Actually, I have no problem at all burning *.bin images with dd command but none of the *.img I've downloaded would boot up.
I'm wondering if the *.img file contains the uboot part ? Maybe that is the reason ...
Or maybe I missed a parameter to the dd function.

Here is the typical use I make of the dd function :
# dd if=Debian_8_Jessie_armhf_Wbquad_clean.img of=/dev/sdb/ bs=4M

What's wrong ?
Please, help me. I'm very interrested in building my system above your work.

Guillaume

Hi,

Your dd-command seems to be correct . U-boot (for WBQUAD!!) is also included.  (maybe try "sudo dd if=Debian_8_Jessie_armhf_Wbquad_clean.img of=/dev/sdb bs=1M" )
also make sure your Wboard is really not booting and not just unable to display something on your screen (see various EDID problem posts inside the forum).
what you could also try is -use another >=4GB card or use win32diskimager from within windows to write your image(s)

Your first hint was good. The right command to use is : "sudo dd if=Debian_8_Jessie_armhf_Wbquad_clean.img of=/dev/sdb bs=1M".
debian is up and runing  !

thank you again,

Hi,

Just (RE) downloaded the image myself and extracted successfully.
This is a very heavy compressed 7zip archive to get as less 200MB parts as possible (200MB is zippyshare-per-file limit)
so get the latest 7zip from http://www.7-zip.org/ and try again.
(My winrar cannot handle this kind of archives)

I would like to thank you for your work in creating this image. I recently got the Wandboard and was a little bit lost when I could not get the official Ubuntu and Android images to work. I do not have an HDMI monitor and needed SSH to be enabled in those images but I suppose none of them had SSH enabled. Then I tried your image and it worked like a breeze. I only wish you kept the image minimal and free of all these extra software packages. We can always install the softwares we need ourselves.

I have a question though, which version of Java does this image support? Will it support JDK 8 hard float?

Hi Martin,

I am new to the forum and new to the Wandboard. I downloaded your image and everything works perfect - so far - thanks a lot - this is a big help.

I tried to run truecrypt (as root) - the gui works fine - I created a new file container archive - but when I try to mount it I get an error "Failed to set up a loop device".

I checked - there is at least one loop device - /dev/loop0 - does anybody else sees this problem too ? Is there a solution ?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know where I am going wrong.  I am able to load the image and play around with it.  Load programs etc
I don't do anything major but when I do a "sudo apt-get upgrade" to bring the packages to the latest release I loose network on reboot.  I can't even ping the box.
On the box itself I only have a monitor plugged in (no mouse or keyboard) and I can see it loading to the X session.
The mac address is assigned to reserved IP and there is nothing else in the DHCP table and I did a ping sweep and nothing unidentified.
I have recreated my SD card a few times and always seems to be the reboot after the "upgrade"
The simple answer would be don't upgrade but i don't think thats the best option for long term
The sources.list is the same as your image.  Only extra thing I had installed this time was SABnzbd

Hi Ian

I am still using this image by myself without such issues you've encountered.
I had to replace some repositories inside /etc/apt/sources.list that became unavailable .
Here is my actual sources.list:

#start
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free

deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main contrib non-free

deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free

deb http://debian-mirrors.sdinet.de/debian-multimedia/ testing main
deb-src http://debian-mirrors.sdinet.de/debian-multimedia/ testing main
#end

try and update sources.list , and then do "apt-get update" and "apt-get dist-upgrade" instead of just apt-get upgrade.
Maybe this will fix your issues.

To be honest - I dont know!

As mentioned before i tried a lot how-to's and searched through many forums with instructions , but never got a working Kernel with HW-Acc.
I don't know what I am doing wrong, but since my Wboard is running as headless server anyways  I -actually- dont require acc. at all ,and also dont really have the time to try. What does not mean it would'nt be cool!!
Maybe you could post the steps you took to build the kernel and modules so I can give it a try? i am probably missing something important when downloading git / building the kernel for i am really not used in building stuff ! (R.Nelsons script is perfect for a beginner like me, but otherwise I fail poorly  ! ;)

Still on the old kernel as well - I seem to break that whenever i try and upgrade as well

Going to try the offical wandboard image now that I have a keyboard and see if I can plug my way through that. :-)

Thank you so much for your work!  I was able to get the initial Debian image running on the Wandboard Quad, but when I installed the hardware pack, the board would not reboot (I got penguins in the corner, but no Gnome).  I saw that at the end of the install it said copy the zImage.old to zImage if the system doesn't boot, so I did that and now I get no image on the screen at all.  Do you have any suggestions?  Also, I realize that this is a year old, do you know of any newer images available.

Thanks,

Sander
