The steel platebody is an armour used in melee with stat bonuses between iron and mithril (not including the black and white platebodies). It requires 5 Defence to equip and provides greater protection than a steel chainbody. Like all platebodies, however, it gives a crippling negative bonus to the user's Ranged and Magic stats.
Some items and coins spawn throughout the maze. A gold necklace and steel platebody spawn at the centre near the muddy chest. A muddy key is required to open the chest, which contains a fair amount of treasure; looting the chest will earn the player a mithril bar, a mithril dagger, 2 law runes, 2 death runes, 10 chaos runes, an uncut ruby and an anchovy pizza. There is also a single Fishing spot where players can catch lava eel.
It can be made at a forge and anvil using 5 steel bars, requiring 1,500 progress to complete, granting a total of 375 Smithing experience. It can be upgraded to a steel platebody + 1 with another 5 bars.
A steel plate mail body spawns in the centre of the Lava Maze in the Wilderness, next to a Lesser Demon. Some players have chose to use this to make quick cash, either by banking and selling the Steel plate mail body or casting High level alchemy on it.
The steel platebody is the third-weakest standard platebody for free-to-play players. They require a Defence level of 20 to equip. They provide decent defence against ranged attacks, but are vulnerable to magic attacks, as with all platebodies.
