Dear Neighbours:

I hope you all are having a wonderful summer.

The 30 km/hr school speed zone is now in place near Topham and will operate while school is in session.

A very big thank you to everyone who participated in seeing this item to the finish line, but especially to Andrea, Geraldine and Linda and of course, to the current Township council.

You will note a few other changes have been made in and around 91st Avenue and 216th Street.  I invite everyone to go look at the preliminary steps that have been introduced until the road dieting for 216th street from 88th Avenue to 96th Avenue is finalized.

if you think something seems unsafe given your experiences in the neighbourhood, or if you witness something unsafe, please send your comments or questions to the Township of Langley engineering department:  604-533-6006 or eng...@tol.ca

Unless the Township is informed about issues with crossing the street or speeding or any other problems nothing will change

There are still projects with 216th street that we will need to lobby various levels of government for:  The big one is to have the truck route removed from the portion of the road north of 88th Avenue;  Second is the possibility of a crossing guard at 91st Avenue; third is to successfully address speeding along the corridor; and fourth is the lack of bus stops on 216th street [except for the one at @ 87th Avenue which is infrequently in use].  TransLink is paying for part of the maintenance of the road north of 88th Avenue.  The distances are too great between the bus stops on 96th Avenue and 88th Avenue for some of our residents, especially those with mobility issues.  The goal of getting single passenger vehicles off the road is only achievable where there is public transportation to provide an alternative means of travel.    There is also the ongoing problem of monitoring and enforcing the no truck portion of 216th Street.  As we have mentioned before, residents have to complain to the RCMP and the Township Bylaw department for any action on this front.  Only trucks making local deliveries are supposed to be using this stretch of road.

As you can see there is always more to do.  Have a great rest of the summer.  We will resume our efforts with your help once September rolls around.

Sincerely,

Christine
