MapleStoryis a classic MMORPG, set in a brightly-colored and chibi-esque world. Since the game's launch in 2003, new players have continuously touched down on Maple Island, looking for the next greatest adventure. If you are new to the game, you may have a few questions, and we are here to help.

Here, you can find helpful tips for those who are just starting. This can be useful for those that are new to the game, as well as returning players. Anyone who is a bit confused about what to do is welcome here. MapleStory is filled with tons of content to parse through, so let's dive right in!

There are two server types in MapleStory, regular and Reboot. Reboot servers are great for those looking to play solo, as there is no player trading, as well as no NX (MapleStory's premium currency). You can make characters on both servers, but you won't be able to transfer them between the two.

If, on the other hand, you want to play solo and level up quicker, the Reboot server is the way to go. Upon slaying enemies on a Reboot server, you will earn more Mesos and experience, helping you level up a bit quicker.

At the start of the game, you probably won't be interacting with every menu. The important beginner ones are contained within the Character menu; here, you can check your inventory, character info, equipment, and more. You can also find the Maple Guide here, which recommends content for you to complete. This is a very helpful feature if you aren't sure where to go next.

There are a lot of classes to choose from in MapleStory. Within the classes available, the main classes will branch off. For example, the Explorer class will branch out into five different classes; Bowmen, Thieves, Pirates, Warriors, and Magicians.

From here, the classes branch off again - several times. Let's follow the Warrior class as an example. From the Warrior class, you can become a Fighter, and then eventually a Crusader. From here, you can then choose to become a Hero.

There are also Hero Classes that you can choose from, not to be confused with the Explorer Warrior Hero. Hero Classes are a bit confusing based on the title alone, as they are named after individuals. The Heroes include Aran, Evan, Mercedes, Phantom, Luminous, and Shade.

All of this to say, there are a lot of choices. It's harder to just settle with one, so we recommend trying a few out! If you decide that you don't like the class, simply make a new character.

Above, we mentioned the Maple Guide, which essentially guides you in the right direction. This is the best resource to follow when you are just starting out. After the beginning content of MapleStory, you will seemingly be left to your own devices. The Maple Guide will point you to your path based on your level.

For example, the initial tasks from the Maple Guide consist of content for levels 30 to 59. This includes completing the Ellinel Fairy Academy questline, as well as a few other location-based quests. The guide will also display monster-slaying goals, such as 'eliminating' 250 Wild Boar in the Wild Boar Land.

MapleStory guilds are a great way to connect with other players, as well as receive various buffs that you otherwise would not receive. To join or create a guild, you will first need to be at least level 101. If you choose to create your own guild, you will also need to play five million Mesos.

Lastly, take your time and focus on one goal. This tip applies to pretty much every game out there, but it's especially true for MapleStory. The game has a lot going on, and it can be overwhelming at first. There are tons of menus and locations to visit, and if you are in a popular town, you will see a lot of very geared-up players.

We suggest taking your time to gather your bearings. Alongside this, it's good to set a personal goal for yourself, rather than trying to do it all at the same time. Goals can be simple, such as 'get to level 100', or a bit more specific. Interested in a piece of gear? Set this as your end goal! Doing too many things at the same time may cause you to feel burned out, so we recommend having a plan of action.

For the beginners, here's a guide on MapleStory M together with some tips you should know of.

The first tip in this game is to keep doing quests if you want a fast progression. Unlike the MapleStory on PC, this mobile game gives more experience points for quests. It's suitable for those who are already working, but still want to play the game due to nostalgia or other reasons.

For e.g. Bishop is supposed to be the healer and the support in this game. However, you may notice Bishops being one of the top DPS in some expeditions. Additionally, their healing capabilities have been nerfed to become much weaker recently.

The biggest complaints are probably from the Bowmaster class as they seem to be one of the weakest at the moment. Class balances can always happen at any time, so this only applies at the time of writing.

The most overpowered character at the moment is probably the Night Lord. It usually has the highest DPS in most expeditions and doesn't die that easily due to skills like Dark Sight and Shadow Shifter. Edit: The Bowmaster is now on par or better than the Night Lord for expeditions.

The color refers to the color of the border of the item. You'll notice each equipment has its own colored border to signify rank. Obviously, getting a legendary or a mythic equipment is seriously difficult for free-to-play players, unless you invest a lot of time.

Each equipment in the game has a rank (e.g. rare, epic) and in order to go to the next rank, you need to first level the equipment. Different ranks have a different max level. For e.g. an epic has a max level of 15 while a unique has a max level of 20. It increases while you scale up.

Furthermore, your item has to be of max level before you can rank up, which means you need a lot of powder and mesos even before ranking up. It's pretty hard if you're a F2P player, especially since 10 unique rank up stones is equivalent to 80,000 gold leaves.

It gets more expensive as you enhance your equipment and the probability of failing increases. After level 10, your equipment may break. To prevent it, you have to use scrolls that are available in the Cash Shop (good job Nexon). It's hard for F2P players when it comes to this point.

This only applies for equipment of rank epic, unique and above. If you're fusing a weapon, both materials have to be weapons. If you're doing armor, then both have to be armor. For example, you can fuse a level 15 epic claw with a level 15 epic bow.

The good part about fusing is that you stand a chance to get an emblem equipment. The chances are really low but if you do get one, do know that an emblem equipment has even higher stats than a regular equipment. It even has better stats than a perfect base stat (PBS) equipment, which is why many players are trying their luck on fusion.

The biggest downside to fusing is that you'll end up with a random weapon of the same class, with random stats. For e.g. if you fuse a claw (as base) with any other weapon, you will end up with a random claw (Briser / Halphas / Jaihin / Utgard).

Each epic and higher rank equipment will give you potentials in this game. Potentials refers to additional stats like Crit DMG, Accuracy, Evade, Max HP and so on. Sometimes you have a great weapon but lousy potentials. You can change them by using cubes.

Sometimes when you enhance your equipment above 10 stars, it breaks (if you don't use a scroll). That renders your equipment unusable. You can still transfer the stats to another equipment of the same kind.

When you start playing MapleStory M, you have the freedom to select from 11 options. However, it's worth noting that three of these options are actually groups, and each group contains multiple distinct characters. So, in total, there are 25 characters to choose from in the game.

Every character in MapleStory M has unique combat abilities and an individual backstory. You can play as one of the legendary heroes who were responsible for the initial sealing of the Black Mage, or you can choose to be a member of the Resistance, Explorers, or Cygnus Knights.
