I had done the initial delete from the message thread with the landlord, and then I in the message app, i did the Edit --> Show Recently Deleted --> highlighted messages --> Delete --> Delete Message. The last step results in a note that "This message will be permanently deleted. This action cannot be undone."

I have an Iphone 3gs. I desperately need to recover deleted text messages from it. I have never synched my phone to itunes, "automatically synch to itunes" has always been unchecked. I had never made a back up until a few days ago, but i need to recover the messages deleted prior to creating the backup. is this possible at all? thank you

If the backup is made after the messages were deleted, then you won't be able to get them back via an iTunes restore. However, you may be able to use a third-party program to look at the backup made after the messages were deleted and see what information about those messages is recoverable.

One program, the one I work on, is called Decipher TextMessage. Our software will scan the text-message database and show you what information (whole and incomplete) was found that has been previously deleted. We've had a lot of success helping folks recover their deleted text messages -- it doesn't always work 100% since we're at the mercy of how the database works ? but it's worth a shot to see what you can find!

I think you can recover deleted text messages from iPhone via iTunes. Click the File menu and select Devices > Restore from Back up. Actually, if you do not have the backup files, you can still get them back with iPhone data recovery software.

Instead of dealing with restoring a backup, you can now find the deleted texts on your device and recover them into the Messages app with just a few taps. The process is simple, but you need to know where to look before you can recover any deleted text messages. Here's how.

All of your deleted text messages can be found in the Messages app. To find your trashed messages, open Messages and tap the Filters option in the top left of your text threads. Here you can filter your text messages by known senders, unread messages and more. However, the option we want is Recently Deleted.

A list of your recent text messages will appear, showing phone numbers or contacts, number of messages and days left until permanent deletion. This will include both entire message threads and individual texts that are deleted. However, you'll be able to see (and recover) deleted messages only if they've been deleted in the last 30 days, so you have to act relatively fast.

If you want to recover a text message, tap on the thread or message so that it's selected, hit Recover on the bottom right, and then tap Recover Message in the pop-up that appears. You can also recover all of your deleted text messages at once -- don't select any message and then just tap Recover All.

Your recovered text messages will appear in sequential order from when they were either sent or received, so you may have to scroll a bit through your existing texts to find them, especially if they're old and you have a great deal of new messages cluttering up your inbox.

Except to recover the deleted text messages from iTunes or iCloud backup, there is another way to restore deleted text messages by using third-party 'easy iphone recovery' approach as i know. If you have no idea to recover your messages from backup, you may try this way.

The answer is unfortunately: it depends! If you have a backup of the iPhone made before the messages were deleted (either iCloud or made in iTunes on your computer), you can either get the messages out of that backup, or restore the backup to get the messages for sure. Keep in mind that restoring a backup is going to erase the new contents on your iPhone though, so that may not be what you want to do.

If you don't have a backup made before the messages were deleted, there's still a chance that the messages are recoverable. When you delete a message in Messages, the database entry gets tagged for reuse, rather than obliterated - there's a lot of third party tools that will analyze a text message database from an iTunes backup to see if the message record is still there in the database to read. I'm the developer for one of the third party tools - Decipher TextMessage - that will do the analysis on Message app databases in a backup. You can definitely google around to see your options for tools though.

The recovery chance is not much related to the time when you delete them, but whether they are overwritten. So stop using your iOS device after losing data. Another thing you need to pay attention to is the text messages you deleted just now might probably not be defined as abandoned data by the device. So if you use a data recovery tool to get back those deleted text messages, sometimes the software cannot scan them out immediately. But it will be fine with later trying.
