Hello everyone,
After an amazing summer of youth tennis with my new and wonderful assistant coach for Whitman Women's tennis Emily Rolston providing TWO amazing extra sessions of youth tennis, it is now the Whtiman fall season so our offerings have been quiet. They WILL PICK UP IN OCTOBER SO STAY TUNED FOR AFTER SCHOOL TENNIS!
For now, Emily and I are running our fall tournament this weekend. We've done this in the past on both the men's and women's side and it has gone really well, but there are a few small tasks during the tournament that if staffed by volunteers would help make it a bit better for all of the players and certainly would allow Emily and I to do more coaching and less tournament management.
If you, or anyone you know might be interested in helping out, the tournament starts up quietly Friday evening with a couple qualifying matches, then goes full boar from 8am - 8 or 9pm Sat, 9am-8pm or so Sunday and 9am until 5 or 6 pm on Monday. At the very least, enjoy some tennis action in Bratton or the outdoor courts. Here are some jobs that are easy and would help us out:
- Sat, Sun and Mon - pick up lunch for tournament officials, Emily, myslelf and any other volunteers.
- Sat, Sun and Mon morning 30-45 minutes before play - help set up chairsfor players and viewing around the courts, tournament desk and player hospitality area in the lawn by the courts and inside in Bratton.
- Sat, Sun and Mon at the conclusion of play: help put away chairs, tables etc.
- Sat afternoon - drive shuttle from Whitman to WW Country Club and back to get players to and from consolation matches
- Sat Afternoon - work the tournament desk at the Walla Walla Country Club - just read the draws, put on the right players, give them balls and then record scores - EASY!
- Sat, Sun and Mon - come yourself and spread the word to CHEER FOR YOUR WHITTIES and support them as they look to stay on top of the NWC competition and win both singles and doubles to send representatives to fall nationals in Alabama!
Thanks everyone, your involvement in the growth of tennis in our community is amazing and I'm excited to see this great sport spreading in the Walla Walla Valley!
