The companies, including top U.S. carriers AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint, plan to adopt eight principles, such as implementing call-blocking technology at the network level, making available additional free call blocking and labeling tools, launching tools to authenticate that callers are coming from a valid source, and monitoring their networks for robocall traffic. Phone companies also have agreed to assist the attorneys general with anti-robocall enforcement. "We applaud the efforts of these telecommunications companies to stop unwanted robocalls,"said California Attorney General Xavier Becerra. "Robocalls initiated from fake numbers are more than just a nuisance -- they're illegal. Today's announcement is a useful step toward eliminating these types of calls, which far too often lead to identify theft and financial loss." Americans received approximately 4.7 billion robocalls in July, according to YouMail. The coalition of companies also includes Bandwidth, CenturyLink, Charter, Comcast, Consolidated, Frontier, US Cellular and Windstream. https://oag.ca.gov/news/press-releases/attorney-general-becerra-secures-commitment-telecommunications-industry-take __________________________ o Petaluma-Based Tibit Communications Adds $5 Million to Second Round Petaluma, Calif. -- Tibit Communications, a Petaluma-based start-up developing access devices for Passive Optical Networking (PON), said on Thursday it has raised an additional $5 million in its second round of funding, closing the round at $25 million.
