o San Francisco's Bestmile Lands $16.5 Million for Mobility Platform 

San Francisco – Bestmile, the San Francisco- and Switzerland-based developer of a mobility platform designed to let service providers manage and operate autonomous vehicle fleets, said it has landed $16.5 million in its second round of funding. Blue Lagoon Capital and Palo Alto's TransLink Capital co-led the round, which also included participation from previous investors Road Ventures, Partech, Groupe ADP, Airbus Ventures and Serena. Blue Lagoon partners Rodney Rogers and Kevin Reid have joined the company's board of directors, with Rogers serving as chairman. "With these funds and leadership, we are ready to advance our leadership in fleet orchestration," said co-founder and CEO Raphael Gindrat. "We are excited to have the financial and operational support we need to ramp up every function of the organization."

o San Francisco-Based Chargebee Raises $14 Million in Fourth Round 

San Francisco -- Chargebee, the San Francisco-based developer of a platform designed to automate the revenue operations of subscription-based business, said it has raised $14 million in its fourth round of funding, led by Steadview Capital. Previous backers Insight Venture Partners and Accel also took part in the round, which increased the company's total funding to $38.2 million since its inception in 2011. Chargebee said it will use the latest proceeds to expand its product offerings and partnerships. In June, the company opened a new office in Europe, then rolled out a series of new product updates focused on optimizing revenue operations, compliance and revenue recognition. Chargebee's platform is currently used by more than 1,800 companies in 53 countries.

o S.F.-Based CodeCombat Raises $6 Million, Develops New Coding Game

San Francisco -- CodeCombat, the San Francisco-based developer of computer science programs designed to help students learn JavaScript and Python, said it has raised $6 million in its first round of funding and developed a new educational game. Hone Capital led the round, which also included participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Extol Capital and OceanOne Capital. The game, called Ozaria, challenges students to save the world from impending darkness by mastering computational thinking, learning Python or JavaScript, and building creative projects. CodeCombat plans to use the funding to expand further in the U.S. and build partnerships in China, including those with NetEase and Tarena, "We’ve developed the only beginner-focused code engine that runs real Python and JavaScript in the browser, letting kids with no coding experience start typing real code right away," said Shubhangi Gupta, the company's most senior software engineer.

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Rambus, the Sunnyvale-based silicon IP and chip developer, has named Sean Fan as its chief operating officer (COO). Fan most recently served as a corporate vice president and general manager at Renesas Electronics, in charge of the company's datacenter business unit. He previously held various senior executive positions at Integrated Device Technology (IDT) for more than 19 years. “Sean’s proven success in growing semiconductor businesses over the course of his career makes him a great addition to the Rambus team,” said Luc Seraphin, the president and CEO of Rambus.

o Facet Wealth Adds 500 Clients, Employees Through Deal with Grove 

San Francisco -- Facet Wealth, a Baltimore-based provider of technology-enabled financial planning services, said it has signed a new deal to integrate the financial planning business of San Francisco-based Grove, including members of that company's team and its clients. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The move adds approximately 500 households to Facet's client list, about a year after the company raised $33 million in its first round of funding, led by Warburg Pincus. “We know what kind of possibilities we can create for these households with the right people and the right tools," said Anders Jones, the co-founder and CEO of Facet. The news comes days after four-year-old Grove, which offered financial planning through a combination of human advisors and technology, sold the bulk of its assets to Wealthfront, as it shifts focus to building technology and automation tools.
