o San Jose-Based BrightInsight Raises $25 Million in First Round

San Jose, Calif. -- BrightInsight, the San Jose-based developer of a digital health platform for biopharma and medtech clients, said on Thursday it has raised $25 million in its first round of funding, co-led by New Leaf Venture Partners and Eclipse Ventures. The year-old company said it will use the proceeds to further develop its core platform and accelerate global commercialization efforts. BrightInsight's medical-grade IoT platform is designed to optimize regulated drugs, devices and software through integrated data and actionable insights. It also aims to help customers increase patient adherence and engagement. "This financing enables us to continue to invest in our differentiated platform while also integrating our solutions into the broader healthcare ecosystem globally," said co-founder and CEO Kal Patel.

o Santa Clara-Based Palo Alto Networks to Acquire Mountain View's Zingbox

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Palo Alto Networks, the Santa Clara-based developer of cybersecurity technology, said it will pay $75 million in cash to acquire Mountain View-based IoT security company Zingbox. The deal is expected to close by the end of October. The company said the acquisition will add a cloud-based service and AI and machine learning technology that should accelerate its delivery of IoT security. "The proliferation of IoT devices in enterprises has left customers facing an enormous gap in protection against cybersecurity attacks," said Nikesh Arora, the chairman and CEO of Palo Alto Networks. "With the proposed acquisition of Zingbox, we will provide a first-of-its-kind subscription for our Next-Generation Firewall and Cortex platforms that gives customers the ability to gain control, visibility and security of their connected devices at scale."

o Redwood City-Based OpenGov Acquires ViewPoint

Redwood City, Calif. -- OpenGov, a Redwood City-based developer of enterprise cloud tools for government clients, said it has acquired Boston-based ViewPoint, a creator of multi-tenant SaaS software for permitting and licensing. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. OpenGov said it plans integrate ViewPoint's software into its OpenGov Cloud. It marks the company's third announced acquisition since 2016. The news comes on the heels of OpenGov $51 million fourth round of funding, co-led by Weatherford Capital and 8VC.

o San Jose-Based Therma Holdings Acquires Maryland's VarcoMac

San Jose, Calif. -- Therma Holdings, a San Jose-based provider of mechanical and electrical services to technology, biopharmaceutical, data center and semiconductor clients, said it has acquired Maryland-based VarcoMac, an electrical contractor serving clients in the data center, healthcare and high-tech industries. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Thirty-seven-year-old VarcoMac will operate as a unit of Therma, continuing to be led by its current president, Shane Wilemon. "VarcoMac's strong base of service and maintenance -- with a focus on complex systems in mission-critical environments -- expands our service offerings, customer and geographic reach," said Therma CEO Jeff Sprau.
