o San Francisco-Based CropX Raises $10 Million, Hires President

San Francisco -- CropX, the San Francisco-based developer of a data-driven farm management platform, on Wednesday announced $10 million in new funding and named John Vikupitz as its president. New investors Sumitomo, Armada Capital and TaL Capital joined previous backers Finistere Ventures, Germin8 Ventures, GreenSoil Investments, Innovation Endeavors and OurCrowd in the round. The company said it will use the new capital to amplify its research and development efforts and speed penetration of its analytics platform. Vikupitz has spent the past decade as the president and CEO of precision irrigation company Netafim USA. CropX's soil sensing technology is designed to help farmers manage and accurately predict crop needs, such as irrigation and fertilization. That data is then integrated with other data, such as satellite imagery, weather and crop modeling, to help farmers improve crop health and profitability.
