Join the Willamette Wanderers as they walk their 5/10k, routes in
McMinnville on Sunday, Aug 8th.
Start will be at 10 a.m., with registering at 9:45.
Meet at McMenamins Hotel Oregon, 310 NE Evans St. but use the restaurant
entrance on 3rd St.
You can park in the public parking garage at 4th/Evans.
The 5k focuses on public art in the downtown while the 10k goes to older
residential neighborhoods and Linfield University.
McMinnville is a lovely town in Oregon’s Wine Country.

The Willamette Wanderers will be offering Tuesday Evening Summer Strolls
in Salem twice monthly during June, July and August 2021. Participants
will meet at the designated start point at 5:45 PM for each walk. Walks
will be 5K-6K and are meant to be strolls, not fast walks. The purpose
of these evenings is fun, friendship and conversation. Well-behaved,
leashed dogs are welcome.
So mark your calendar for these Summer Strolls: August 10 SE Salem,
August 24 NE Salem Historical District.
Lin Crimshaw will again lead the strolls. If you are interested in
participating, call or text her at 971-599-0778 or email her at

Reminders will be emailed a week prior to each walk to those who have
expressed interest. Please be sure to RSVP to Lin by noon on the Sunday
prior to the walk. The designated start point will be included in the
reminder emails.

Description: For both the 5 and 10 distances, the walk will go thru
a portion of the downtown area passing many artistic murals/statues
continuing past Fire Dept., Police and Search and Rescue buildings then
into residential neighborhoods. At the 2.5 km point the walk will go to
the waterfront and continue on the Waterfront Trail. A new mile section
of the trail was just opened in May 2021 and includes Big Foot Park. The
5 km returns to the start and the 10/15 km continues on the levee along
the river as a out and back.

Comments: For those doing the Oregon "Yeti" challenge there are 2
different places to qualify for the challenge. There are many other new
2021 Oregon challenges along the route as well as Washington's
"Frontline Heroes" Challenge.

Butte eruption buried the channel of the Deschutes River in more than
100 feet of lava creating a natural dam. Benham Falls was the outlet

rock and the lake drained but some impressive whitewater remains.

This trail is a moderately difficult hike located within the scenic
Newberry Volcanic Monument area. Elevation is at 6,350' at the trailhead
start. This forested trail circumnavigates the lake, mostly flat with
some uphill sections. Make a day of it and visit the Obsidian Flow and
drive to the top of Paulina Peak.

From the open meadows of the nature preserve, descend one steep switch

encouraging individuals or couples walkers to walk the many clubs
Year-Round- Events (YRE’s). Since many of the Starting Points are
closed, it is recommended that you not sign in at this time but to just
do the walk, keep track of the date and walk. When things get back to
normal, you would then sign in, pay your fees, and stamp your event and
distance books. For those who walk but do not keep books, you would just
keep track of the walks and when this coronavirus is no longer a threat
sign in and contribute what you wish to help support our organization.

Winding through a gentle forest along Fall Creek, pass several
waterfalls and lava flows to the lakes with their vast views of South

This trail is a moderately difficult hike located within the scenic
Newberry Volcanic Monument area. Elevation is at 6,350' at the trailhead
start. This forested trail circumnavigates the lake, mostly flat with
some uphill sections. Make a day of it and visit the Obsidian Flow and
drive to the top of Paulina Peak.
Bend - Riley Ranch to Tumalo State Park

From the open meadows of the nature preserve, descend one steep switch
back area to get to the Deschutes River to hike to Tumalo State Park.

nature preserve. The shorter route (5 km) is available to those with dogs.

Walking is good for you. The State organization in Oregon (OTSVA) is
encouraging individuals or couples walkers to walk the many clubs
Year-Round- Events (YRE’s). Since many of the Starting Points are
closed, it is recommended that you not sign in at this time but to just
do the walk, keep track of the date and walk. When things get back to
normal, you would then sign in, pay your fees, and stamp your event and
distance books. For those who walk but do not keep books, you would just
keep track of the walks and when this coronavirus is no longer a threat
sign in and contribute what you wish to help support our organization.
