The Clubs of the Evergreen State Volkssport Association invite you to
the AVA NW Regional Conference. Join us Sept 19-24, 2024 to explore the
beautiful Kitsap Peninsula and surrounding area. We have 8 walks planned
for you. A bike is available nearby and there are swimming pools to
enjoy a swim, Sanctioning for the swim is in the OSB and available
through AVA. There are also 7 beautiful YRE walks in the area.
This walkfest includes some fun socials for you to enjoy. Friday night
we will be visiting and dining in the FUN PLACE "My Girl Museum" in
Kingston. Enjoy reliving the days of our youth. Saturday we will join
together at the Silverdale Scout Hall for Pizza and Salad.
Location: The festival will be headquartered at the Boy Scout Hall in
Silverdale, WA. The hall is located at 9161 Washington Ave. NW,
Silverdale, WA.
Daily hours at the Hall are Thursday 9:00am-4:00pm, Friday-Saturday
8:00am-4:00pm, Sunday 8:00am-3:00pm. Google Maps/Apple Maps: Silverdale
Scout Hall
Driving Directions: From Tacoma - West on WA-16 across Narrows Bridge.
In 26 miles - merge onto WA-3 North. In 8 miles - take exit 43 for
Newberry Hill Road. Turn Right on Newberry Hill Rd. At traffic circle,
take the 2nd exit onto Silverdale Way NW. Just past Anderson Hill Rd
stoplight, turn Right onto Linder Way NW (ballfields on right). Linder
curves Right to a stop sign. Just past the stop sign where Linder
changes to Washington Ave, turn Right into the scout hall parking lot.

Accomodations
There is not a central hotel. Most National chains have a prescence in
Silverdale, Bremerton or nearby communities. There are many vrbo.airbnb
opportunities in the local area. Our walks are spread throughout the
beautiful Kitsap Peninsula.
Overall Walking Plans
We are planing for featured walks in different areas each day to
minimize your driving distances. Group walks will be planned as well as
individual walking. All walks are available each day.
Two Socials and Eight new Walks are planned for you!
Friday, Sept 20, 2024 at 5:00pm-8:00pm, we will gather at the My Girl
Museum in Kingston for a Museum tour and Chicken Penne-Pasta Buffet
Dinner in this fun place. Museum Admission is included in the Dinner
pricing.
Soft drinks and water provided. Other beverages may be brought in if
desired.
Saturday, Sept 21, 2024 we gather at the Silverdale Scout Hall at
5:00pm-8:00pm for a Pizza and Salad buffet. Soft Drinks and water
provided. Other beverages may be brought in.
Walk Events: (You may register for each walk individually at the Scout
Hall or register for all walks on your registration form)
Event #1 Bainbridge Island - Battle Point Park and Grand Forest. Battle
Point Park 5K Rated 1B/ Grand Forest 5K & 10K Rated 3C. One 5K stays
within Battle Point Park. The other 5K and 10K are on park and forest
paths that take you around Battle Point Park and onto the Forest to Sky
trail to the Grand Forest. This walk is hosted by Olympic Peninsula
Explorers Club.
Event #2 Bainbridge - Troll, Town and Trail. 10K & 5K Rated 2B.
Explore the parks, trails and waterfront on Bainbridge Island. This walk
is hosted by Interlaken Trailblazers Volkssport
Event #3 Hansville - Lighthouse and Greenway Lighthouse 5K Rated 1B &
11K Rated 2B/Greenway 5K Rated 1C. Walk the tip of the Kitsap Peninsula
on paths that take you through the forested Greenway or along
roads/paths near the shore to and from the Point No Point Lighthouse.
This walk is hosted by Olympic Peninsula Explorers.
Event #4 Kingston - White Horse Trail. 5K & 10K Rated 2B.During
weekdays, utilize complimentary public transit to walk the White Horse
trail from the Indianola waterfront. An alternate 10k route utilizes the
trail and park but does not require a bus ride. A 5k optional route
walks to Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve with a boardwalk trail out to
the lake edge. Hosted by Sound Steppers Volkssport Club
Event #5 Port Ludlow - McCormick Trail. 5K Rated 2B & 10K Rated 3B
Forest and Railroad trails. The 5K features the McCormick Loop and one
hill. The 10K includes part of the Timberton Loop and a new trail in the
Port Ludlow system, the McCormick RR Trail, a newly cleared section of
an old railroad line that was used for logging. The McCormick Trail
section is flat and wooded. It connects to two other trails that make a
loop. The trail may be muddy and there are several climbs on the 10K.
This walk is hosted by Four-Plus Foolhardy Folks (This walk is available
in OSB from Sept 14-30th for those who arrive early or stay later)
Event #6 Port Orchard - South Kitsap Regional Park. 5K & 10K Rated 2C.
Both 5K and 10K are on forest paths that take you around the edge of the
park and into the woods. The route Includes a section of the Explorer
Children’s Trail. The 10K route continues into a neighborhood outside
the park circling a golf course with a loop around Bill Bloomquist
Rotary Park. This walk is hosted by Daffodil Valley Volkssport
Event #7 Silverdale - Old Town. 5K Rated 1B & 10K Rated 2B. This walk
starts at the Silverdale Scout Hall. Walk on sidewalks and tucked away
urban trails within Silverdale seeing old and new along the way with
many great views of Dyes Inlet. This walk is hosted by Olympic Peninsula
Explorers
Event #8 Suquamish and Poulsbo. 4K Rated 1B. 6K Rated 2B. Walk in two
Kitsap County towns. Suquamish is rich in Native American history while
Poulsbo reflects the culture of Norwegian immigrants. This walk is
hosted by Interlaken Trailblazers.

the city to the Ridgefield
Wildlife Refuge. The route then goes on trails in the wildlife areas of
the National Wildlife Refuge
until reaching the Cathlapotle Plankhouse. Return to old town areas. For

newer residential area with trails in Abrams Park.

Luscher Farms is a community garden featuring the Rogerson Clematis
Garden. Once a dairy
farm owned by Rudie and Esther Luscher. You should see some creative
scarecrows in the
garden plots. Oswego Hill Vineyard and Winery is family owned and
specializes in 20 handcrafted
wines including whites, reds, sparkling and dessert. Cooks Butte Park is
42 acres of soft and
moderately easy trails (though look at the rating) some areas are a bit
steep.This butte is a 720 ft
boring volcano. There are 14 Boring vents west of the Willamette River
and Cooks Butte double
summit has two of them. Named after James P. Cook who worked in the iron
industry. You will
walk through neighborhhoods of beautiful homes, a pioneer cemetery and
peaceful easterly
views. Both the 6km and 10km/11km routes go through Luscher Farms. There
will not be any
markers for this walking event (no arrows or ribbons). Map guided walk
only. No dogs are

TRAIL: (2B) This is a “Progressive Walk”. Park in the parking lot of
the Prospect Historic Hotel. Walk to Pearsony Falls and return to your

walk to a “Y” with a choice to see the Giant Boulder or the Mill Creek &
Barr Creek Falls or both.

TRAIL: (3B) Begin with a roughly mile climb to the top of this volcanic
plateau and look out and see the town of Medford, parts of the Rogue
