Main St. by MassDOT letter and meetings

Hello WalkMedford, 

Hope you're enjoying the summer days and finding some good trees to walk under when you need the shade. 

1) Action item for today and beyond!

This afternoon, we'll be sending a letter to MassDOT to request a meeting about, and changes to, the Main St intersection at South St/Route 16. 

Would you add your name and/or organization to the signatories?

I'll continue adding names and organizations even after we send it, so no worries if you missed this email today. We've got lots of work to do. 

2) We hope to begin meeting again after a quiet year. We'd love some help on organizing and advocating on two main issues.

1) Main St. at South St. MassDOT project, to push for more forward thinking changes and prevent expansion of car lanes at the expense of transit, pedestrians and cyclists 

2) Route 16 at Auburn St. Since our co-sponsored walk along Mystic Valley Parkway a year ago, the bridge at Auburn St/Whole Foods has been smashed by a driver at least four times and replaced. It is only a matter of time before a serious casualty happens here. We want to request a traffic study be done and think about ways we can improve this intersection, with perhaps some easy short-term changes to make it safer, and more long term changes that prioritize pedestrian safety, cycling routes and traffic calming.
