Pedestrian deaths quadruple in Davidson County, prompting police action

It's so confusing - after all the lip service to caring, prioritizing, voting, choosing how we move, listening to the community, hosting info sessions, requesting input, mocking up plans, the problem is far worse than it was 5 years ago.
Under Freddie, NDOT, the addition of VisionZero, the resurrection of BPAC, new leadership at Walk/Bike, and a critical mass group that would rather make friends than make change, it's now more dangerous than ever to walk and ride a bike in Nashville.
Maybe what's missing is another committee? Maybe we all have to be kinder and more polite and gracious with Freddie and Sean and NDOT? Maybe we all have to vote harder? Maybe someone can convince Sam Reed to start riding bikes? Maybe we'll get lucky and the child of an elected official will be impacted and then there will be a push for change?
At least this much is clear - whatever it is BPAC, VisionZero, Walk/Bike, "critical mass", NDOT, and Sean's super committee of all of those combined think they're doing to increase safety in this city, it is ineffective, poorly strategized, failing miserably, and people are dying. That, or those are not the right tools to meet this crisis.
Either way, Nashville - as a system - values, prioritizes, and plans for the convenience of car drivers over the lives and safety of pedestrians and cyclists, and there's no committee currently on the scene that is capable or willing to take that head-on.
At least we have the brilliant and forward thinking folks at MNPD who commented for the story and reminded everyone that to make streets safer, we need to, "wear reflective clothing, be very visible. Make sure you’re crossing where there’s traffic lights or crosswalk available..."
Be safe out there folks - ain't nobody looking out for you on these streets.
