Action Network Conference Call Will Help You Plan Now for International Walk to School Events in October
If you are or want to be among the many school communities in Washington to celebrate International Walk to School Day (IWALK) in October, make it easier for yourself later by taking a few key actions now.
Feet First is hosting a conference call for the Safe Routes to School Action Network focused on summer steps for IWALK planning.

The conference call will include a presentation by Feet First Safe Routes to School Program Director, Jen Cole. Jen will share information about early planning choices, event giveaways, and the Feet First IWALK Challenge. International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school programs, and celebration –- with record breaking participation –- that lasts throughout October. Today, thousands of schools across America –- from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico –- participate in IWALK. More information is available at walkbiketoschool.org.

The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Action Network is a listserv-based community of people across the State of Washington who have joined together to make walking and biking to school more safe, practical and fun. The goals of the SRTS Action Network are to:
- Share models for successful programs
- Provide training on how to start and sustain SRTS programs
- Develop and expand partnerships
- Gather input for potential policy advancements
- Identify needs and opportunities for action
