Hello All,
I wanted to let you all know about a great learning and networking opportunity that is coming up on the evening of March 14 and all day on March 15th in Helena. It is the 1st Annual Montana Bike Walk Summit!! Sorry for sending this if you have already received it—or perhaps already signed up for the Summit—but my purpose is also so you can share this poster and the link below with your friends and colleagues who may not already know about it.
There is a great line-up of speakers, many nationally recognized experts in the field. Scott Bricker, the Executive Director of America Walks, a national non-profit devoted to encouraging more walking and more walkable communities will speak at a fun networking meeting the evening before the Summit and our own Lt. Governor John Walsh will be the keynote speaker on Friday morning March 15.
There are many other great speakers sharing important information including Darren Flusche from the League of American Bicyclists talking about the new transportation bill, MAP 21 and Lynn Zanto from the Montana Department of Transportation talking about the new Transportation Alternatives program (which replaces the former Community Transportation Enhancement Program (CTEP) and the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program…among others). Joe Gilpin from Alta Planning + Design will share the latest on bicycle facility design and also a new Montana toolkit on Complete Streets (2012 Montana Complete Streets Toolkit for Cities, Small Towns and Tribal Communities). Roger Millar from Smart Growth America will be sharing innovative practices related to walking and biking being used at state departments of transportation across the country. There will also be a session on how bicycling is increasing tourism in the state and around the US, Safe Routes to School and many more!
Please join us in Helena on March 14-15 and share this email and poster far and wide. Early bird registration ends March 5th. For more information on Bike Walk Montana and to become a member, sign up for the listserv or register for the Summit, please go to www.bikewalkmontana.org.
Thanks,
Cathy
P.S. Another opportunity: On Wednesday, February 27th at 11 am Mountain Time, Transportation for America will host an online presentation to learn how to use MAP-21 to fund rural transportation priorities and strengthen your community.
