Subject: URGENT - Call Sen. Baucus TODAY - Safe Routes in Jeopardy

Call Sen. Baucus THIS WEEKEND - Safe Routes in Jeopardy
Negotiations on the transportation bill have reached a new urgency, and House and Senate leaders are meeting all weekend to make the final deal on the transportation bill, including deciding the fate of bicycling, walking and Safe Routes to School programs.
The House is demanding that bicycling and walking funding be made optional, and to eliminate Safe Routes to School even as an eligible use of funds. The future of our programs are on the line in this weekend's meeting.
Sen. Baucus (D-MT) needs to hear from his Montana constituents-you-this weekend about how important these programs are to your community's safety, accessibility, and economic competitiveness.
Will you call Senator Baucus in one of his Montana district offices this weekend and ask him to save local control over Safe Routes to School, bicycling and walking?
Over the past few years, tens of thousands of individuals have sent emails made phone calls and organized events to make sure Congress does the right thing on bicycling and walking funding. So far we have been successful at protecting the funding that makes streets safer and more accessible in our communities. But this weekend will decide it all.
It's easy to call Senator Baucus's office. All you have to do is:
1. Go to this link: http://www.americabikes.org/report_your_call
2. Select Sen. Baucus from the list of targets and fill in your information.
3. Follow the instructions on screen for the phone number for Sen. Baucus's office and a suggested script for the call. Then simply fill out a little information about your call and submit, so we can track how many calls the office receives.
Please take 4 minutes to do so today! Thank you so much for standing up for biking and walking at this absolutely pivotal time.
