Now that there's no longer a google wave (I had high hopes for it before gplus sprang onto the scene), I've checked out Wave in a box (
https://wave-dev.alown.co.uk ) and also Kune over at
http://kune.ccI have to wonder why there appears to be so little development for this type of server. I also have to wonder how much of Slack was actually inspired by Google Wave.
Anyway, the Apache Wave is ready to go and works I suppose. I don't know about the federation issues, but RedMatrix / Hubzilla is also onto that track I think, at least as far as decentralized federations of servers, along with diaspora and a couple of others which didn't quite make it over the hump during their retooling like
identi.caSo I guess what I'm asking here is how many people are working with a technology like this, what exactly is that product or are you actually self-hosting the services yourself, where are these resources, etc.
Kune looks to be the most polished at this point, and even has connectors for social networks for the purposes of sharing - I haven't tested that yet, but I did see LinkedIn, faceplant, twitter, and some others there. Kune.cc was a little sluggish for me but that could just be the server.
Next I suppose is how to populate a system like that with users - it was hard enough to find people on Google Wave, in no small part because there just weren't that many people that had received invites before the powers that be decided to ramp it down and close shop.
Well, it may very well be that no one sees this post for a long long time - there's been no activity here in this forum/list for over a year. So on that note I'll close and look forward to seeing something in my inbox.
