Input Sought on Metropolitan Transportation Plan

Series of public meetings to look at future of transportation in region

( Albuquerque , NM - March 17, 2010) - The long-range plan for the Albuquerque Metropolitan Planning Area – known as the Metropolitan Transportation Plan – is being updated, and planners at the Metropolitan Planning Organization within the Mid-Region Council of Governments need your help to insure that the long-range plan for transportation meets community goals. A series of upcoming public meetings will address the present state of the regional transportation system, goals for the future, as well as the comments collected from the public in recent months.

“We had more than 36-hundred responses to a recent online transportation survey, so we know that people are really paying attention to transportation issues in our region”, says Albuquerque City Councilor Debbie O’Malley, Chair of the Metropolitan Transportation Board. “In order to meet the challenges our region faces, we need to take a regional approach to transportation planning and work to define our goals, objectives, and how to measure our progress.”

Mid-Region Council of Government Planners would like to hear from the public about how well the present system serves current needs, and where policy makers should direct the limited resources available to the region. In addition to present-day and forecast data, MRCOG staff will be on-hand to present the latest survey results.
