YOU ARE INVITED....
WHAT: Kickoff Meeting – “Albuquerque Residents for Modern Streetcar”
WHEN: Thursday, 19 April 2007, 6 PM
WHERE: Heights Community Center (823 Buena Vista SE --just south of Coal Avenue, on the same block as CNM)
BACKGROUND: Albuquerque Residents for Modern Streetcar is a new grassroots campaign, organized for the purpose of promoting the development of a modern streetcar in Albuquerque. The group is not affiliated with WALK Albuquerque or the City of Albuquerque. According to its meeting announcement, it is “just a group of interested citizens, community groups and businesses who would like to see a streetcar here.”
The announcement also notes that there “is a lot of misinformation about the proposed modern streetcar, and after the madness that took place in the last several months, a whole lot of confusion as well. We want to balance the debate and bring real discussion to the table. We want to be a strong, united voice that will speak and work in favor of the well-being of the people of Albuquerque.”
People who are interested in taking part in this campaign should attend this meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to “brainstorm and figure out the best course of action for the campaign.” Those who are unable to attend the meeting can visit the group’s website (www.albuquerquestreetcar.org) and click on "Forum" to participate in the discussion electronically.
