Hello

I noticed a strong gasoline smell on the east end of the ravine yesterday afternoon/evening. When I went on a walk today I saw white booms in the creek between Clinton Heights and Longview. Does anyone know what happened?

The smell was still there tonight when I was walking … the creek looks like it was drained, especially considering all the rain we had. There were people down there late last night with utility trucks - and now there’s silt fencing damming up the creek in several spots.

This might just be speculation, but  we reported on Thursday that the creek was milky. It seemed to be more than just the rains.  I know that the city came out late in the afternoon to check it out.  They ruled out a water leak, but I didn't hear more after that.

The  city says it received a report of someone purposefully dumping something from a gasoline container (like the kind you use for a lawn mower) into the creek, and it put up the booms to catch water to test quality.

The worker I just spoke with said the water is fine now, no contaminants.   He indicated it's still being investigated.

Thanks for the update, Cindy. Tell Jeff to stop doing that. :)

Hey Cindy & Jeff,

A while back I think you shared a city or county department phone number to report spills and/or dumping. If you still have that info, could you share it again?

Thanks.

Yesterday, I asked a city worker -who was in the Ravine -said an oil spill was reported.
