The film also features Emily Blunt, Jason Segel, Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly, Chris O'Dowd, T.J. Miller, James Corden, Catherine Tate and Emmanuel Quatra in supporting roles.

The film is loosely based on the first part of the 18th-century novel Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, but also incorporates elements from other parts of the book and modern references. The film received mostly negative reviews from critics, who criticized the screenplay, humor, direction and Black's performance. However, the film did receive some positive feedback from audiences, who enjoyed the visual effects, adventure and comedy aspects of the film.
Lemuel Gulliver works in the mailroom of a New York newspaper, where he has a crush on the travel editor Darcy Silverman. He lies to her about being a writer and convinces her to give him an assignment to write about the Bermuda Triangle. He sets off on a boat trip, but gets caught in a storm and ends up on an island called Lilliput, where he is captured by a population of tiny people. He soon befriends Horatio, a commoner who helps him escape from prison. He also meets Princess Mary, whom Horatio loves, and King Theodore and Queen Isabelle, who appoint him as their protector against their enemies, the Blefuscians.
Gulliver enjoys his new status as a hero and a giant, and uses his knowledge of modern culture to impress the Lilliputians. He also helps Horatio woo Princess Mary by plagiarizing lyrics from famous songs. However, he also attracts the jealousy and hatred of General Edward, who is betrothed to Mary and plots to overthrow the king. Edward teams up with the Blefuscian king Leopold and his daughter Princess Lorraine to kidnap Mary and start a war with Lilliput. Gulliver is exposed as a liar when Darcy arrives on the island looking for him. He is shunned by the Lilliputians and imprisoned in a cave along with Darcy.
With the help of Horatio and his loyal servant Jinks, Gulliver escapes from the cave and rescues Mary from the Blefuscians. He then challenges Edward to a duel and defeats him using a makeshift guitar. He apologizes to Darcy for lying to her and confesses his true feelings. She accepts his apology and reciprocates his feelings. Gulliver then helps the Lilliputians defeat the Blefuscian navy using a fire extinguisher. He is hailed as a hero again and bids farewell to his friends before returning to New York with Darcy.
