We are continuously developing this brand-new Mendeley Cite tool, with new features and functionality being added regularly. For more information about the most recent releases please see our release notes -notes-mendeley-cite.
Mendeley Cite is an add-in for MS Word that speeds up the process of referencing when writing /word-processing. It allows you to quickly and easily insert references from your Mendeley library directly into your Word document, without the need to open Mendeley Reference Manager, Mendeley Desktop, or even have either Mendeley desktop application installed.
Mendeley is a web application that helps you collect, manage, and cite research sources. It's easy to use, accessible within your web browser and/or on your desktop, and best of all it's free. Mendeley allows you to organize, annotate, and highlight PDFs, add to your citations, organize them into collections for different projects, and create bibliographies using Word or OpenOffice. It is available to use in any web browser and surprisingly powerful. Mendeley also has a downloadable desktop application for your Mendeley library.
You may notice on Mendeley's downloads page that there are two seemingly similar desktop programs: Mendeley Desktop and Mendeley Reference Manager. In 2020, Mendeley announced that they were transferring Mendeley Web Libraries to their new Reference Manager, which would also have a downloadable desktop version. While you can still download and use Mendeley Desktop (the old version), we recommend that you download and use Mendeley Reference Manager, since it is more up-to-date and integrates easily with the web version.
With 2GB of free and secure cloud storage, the library is easily accessible from anywhere. It actually offers paid storage plans wherein you can utilize 5GB or unlimited storage space. Further features include a web importer to add articles, and a citation plugin compatible with most word processing software that generates instant citations as you write. On its desktop version, you will be able to import, organize, and add extra content to your PDF with much ease.
Note that Mendeley Cite only works on the desktop version of Office 365 -- and not in the web-based version. You will see Mendeley Cite (once installed) under the References tab in your desktop version of Microsoft Word.
Use the Web Importer. For a selected number of sites, mostly in the sciences, the Mendeley web importer seamlessly pulls content into the web version of your library. Syncing your library then move the reference to the desktop version.
Mendeley supports over 6,000 different referencing styles. A complete list of the citation styles available in Mendeley can be found at _id/26107/supporthub/mendeley//what-citation-styles-are-available-in-mendeley%3F/
Keep your document in view as you cite: Mendeley Cite opens as a separate panel in Word alongside your document window, not over it, so your whole document remains visible as you find, select and insert references
./mendeley-reference-manager-2.80.1-x86_64.AppImage --no-sandboxFor the current version just use the respective version numbers for example, ./mendeley-reference-manager-2.89.0-x86_64.AppImage --no-sandbox
When you place a document in a watched folder, it will be automatically added to Mendeley so you can annotate, cite, and browse its references instantly. Adding files to Mendeley using watched folders makes it easier to add multiple papers in one go and keep them where you want on your computer. Watched folders requires Mendeley Desktop.
Mendeley is a desktop-based reference manager but has an online element with 2 gigabytes of free storage. This online element syncs with your desktop library, making your library of references accessible from any computer with an internet connection. It also facilitates syncing of your desktop library across multiple computers.
To use Mendeley Reference Manager, install the software (see the 'Install' section of this page) and sign in with your existing Elsevier email address and password. Mendeley Reference Manager will sync with your online account and pull your references through to the desktop interface.
Mendeley Reference Manager and Mendeley Desktop are both desktop-based and can be used on Windows, Mac and Linux computers. To understand the difference between the two, look at the 'Version' section of this page.
To cite the references in your Mendeley library, you need to use a word processor plugin. The newer plugin, Mendeley Cite, is compatible with Microsoft Word. The original plugin (Citation Plugin) is compatible with Microsoft Word and LibreOffice.
Mendeley Cite is the newest of the two word processor plugins and compatible with Microsoft Word. It enables you to cite references from your Mendeley library into your Word document. Instructions can be found on the Mendeley website:
Mendeley Desktop is the original reference management software and, as the name suggests, is desktop-based, but you can also access your library of references online. Mendeley Reference Manager was launched in 2019 with the intention it will replace Mendeley Desktop, which will be retired. Mendeley Desktop is still available, however.
In the desktop version of Mendeley, look for the file menu. Click on View, then look through the list until you see Citation Style. There will be a small radio button (a circle) beside your citation style of choice. If you have a different preference, click More Styles. A dialog box will pop up and let you search for whichever citation style you need.
Mendeley is citation management software that lets you collect, organize, and cite references. The private group feature allows you to connect with invited users to collectively manage and view references in a collection.
Mendeley Reference Manager - This web application is the primary way to use Mendeley. From the app you can import citations straight from databases, access your libraries from anywhere, and sync to your Mendeley Desktop. Note: As of September 1, 2022, Mendeley users will no longer be able to download a desktop version of Mendeley Reference Manager. The web application should be sufficient to meet the needs of most Mendeley users and can be easily accessed from any device.
Mendeley's reference managing capabilities make it a valuable tool for students, researchers, and faculty. Because Mendeley helps you store citations, links, and full-text articles that you gather as you research, not only will those materials be easier to find again, but you'll have the ability to quickly and easily cite those resources when you're ready. Mendeley works with Microsoft Word and Open Office to insert in-text citations and compose bibliographies in just a few mouse clicks.
I previously used the Mendeley desktop app and Word Plugin for all of my research/referencing needs without issues however, I have recently been completely unable to insert citations in word documents. I just purchased a new MacBook Air however, this issue still exists. The error message "Mendeley Word Plugin Problem: Bad file name or number ( 52) in MendeleyPlugin" frequently pops up now however, there are no useful solutions to my issue on the Mendeley support page. I have attempted restarting, re-installing Mendeley, etc. and have not been able to fix this issue.
I have had the same problem. For me, it was something to do with references within footnotes of Word. If I deleted all references inserted within footnotes then this issue dissappeared. Inserting referecnes back within footnotes and mendeley cite crashed again.
Mendeley (produced by Elsevier) is a free citation management software system. Its features include the ability to manage, share, read, annotate, and cite reference papers. It supports private collaborations and offers 2GB of online storage. Additional storage can be purchased.
There are two versions of Mendeley: a desktop version and a browser version. The desktop version is called Mendeley Reference Manager and can be downloaded to your computer, though it does not work well on Macs. The browser-based version is called Mendeley Web and can be accessed from any device. Both version sync any additions or edits with each other.
Mendeley is a combination of a desktop application and a website which helps you manage, share and discover both research content and research contacts. Mendeley allows the automatic generation of citations and bibliographies. It also contains extra features for editing and annotating PDF documents. The website version was modeled after Last.fm, the social networking music site; it incorporates social features into the academic process and allows users to share references with other users or groups, share new research, discover research trends, and get recommendations based on your interests.
If you are using UBC Student Microsoft Office 365, and want to use Mendeley from inside Microsoft Word, you must install a plugin called Mendeley Cite. The instructions for installing Mendeley Cite vary for desktop and online versions of Microsoft Word. To use Mendeley Cite, Mac users must use online Microsoft Word whereas PC users can choose either desktop or online Microsoft Word.
After an item is cited as seen here, the citation style can be selected from a list of commonly used styles. You can search for more styles from an online Mendeley database by clicking "Search for Another Style" or "Add Custom Style." If a style is changed, clicking Refresh in the Mendeley Cite window will update all citation fields.
