One of the board members, John Roberts recently attended the St. Marks
History Committee meeting on Wednesday evening. They are planning a
"Historic St. Marks Day" event, scheduled for Feb. 24th, from
7:30-8:30pm at the Charter School on Shell Island Road in St. Marks.
They'll show a short film having to do with the fort (I think), and
they'll have a list of folks who'll speak for 5 minutes or so each,
about some event they recall from days past at St. Marks. Please feel
free to attend this event, it is sure to be very informative and
entertaining.

They asked John to be one of the speakers. He talk about a 372 pound
Jewfish his Dad and I caught in the river back about 1956.

They asked John if he would continue to come to their meetings. He
will attend them as often as he is able to and will keep us advised of
any other activities taking place in St. Marks that we might be
interested in. If you would like to learn a little more about St.
Marks, February 24th would be the perfect opportunity to do so!

Also, thank you to all of those individuals that helped to make the
Rotary Valentines Day event a success. Despite the rainy weather, we
were still able to win a trophy for Most Original Parade Float!
Luckily, the rain held out long enough for the parade. It was a blast,
and we are considering participating in the St. Patrick's Day Parade
as well! I will keep you updated about this event as well, which is on
March 14th. If you are interested in volunteering please let me know
at barbara...@yahoo.com. Hopefully the weather will be better for
that event! And just as a reminder, our next meeting is March 10th at
7pm at the library. John Roberts will be speaking about the St. Marks
Lighthouse and his family ties to it. Hope to see you all there.

Sincerely,

Barbara Hines
