to wakulla historical society
Hello members,
I just wanted to send one last reminder about our exciting meeting
tomorrow at 7pm at the Wakulla County Public Library. Rebecca Roberts
will presenting information on our local "ghost towns", including the
town of Magnolia, which many of you may be somewhat familiar with.
Rebecca was in the American and Florida Studies Program at FSU when
she became interested in ghost towns. She worked as a research
assistant for ARROW (Apalachicola Region Resources on the Web) and had
the opportunity to interview Homer Harvey, a Wakulla County native.
From Mr. Harvey, she learned about the town of Aaron and became
interested in Wakulla’s many towns that have now disappeared from the
map. This inspired her to write her Florida Studies Program thesis,
“From Boom to Bust: Ghost Towns of Selected Florida Gulf Coast
Communities.” This is going to be a very informative program about a
part of our local history that is in danger of being lost. Come check
it out and bring a friend. You don't have to be a member to enjoy our
monthly programs. Also, there will be historical society items for
sale, such as t-shirts, afghans, coffee mugs, etc... So come a few
minutes early to pick out some great WCHS gear!
