If you're one of the Wagneers who's had to deal with hineyloads of spammy account requests, then I've got happy happy news for you.
Wagn now has captchas - those little pictures of words that you must type to prove you're human. And we're using a particularly cool service called
ReCaptcha, which uses the information you type in to help digitize books.
When you turn captchas on (as we've done for most wagns hosted at
wagn.org), anyone who isn't signed in must complete a captcha before they create, edit, comment on, or delete a card. Of course, permission restrictions still apply -- entering a captcha doesn't mean you have more permissions. But captchas do make it more tempting to open things up, since they cut out tons of spam.
See our
captcha docs to learn about configuring captchas and try them out.
Note: if you're hosting your Wagn somewhere other than wagn.org, you will need to get the very latest code from git (it's not part of a numbered release yet) and follow the instructions on the docs for acquiring and configuring ReCaptcha keys.
