Hello,

I am looking into Wagn for making a light weight intranet with some structured data. For this I want to have card types, e.g. a Contact with attributes such as name, phone, address. I have read all the relevant documentation I could find, but I am still stuck.

I am running the gem version of Wagn standalone.

Here is what I did:

1) created a new card of type "Card type", called it Contact. I can add a description.

2) When I look at the "Contact" card's menu, I see Edit, but no menu item "structure"

3) I tried edit -> content, and put  {{+phone}} inside the Contact description. that did not help.

What is the normal procedure to create a new Card type?

thanks in advance

Matthias

Hi Matthias,

if I understand your question correctly, you would like to define a structure rule for all cards of type "Contact".
I think the easiest way is to go to the "Contact" card and choose from the menu advanced -> rules -> All "Contact" cards.
Make your changes there in the "structure" section (eg. add {{+phone}, {{+name}}, etc } and choose as set "All Contact cards".

Some technical details that might help to clarify your problems:
There is a difference between defining a structure for the card "Contact" and a structure for all cards of card type "Contact".
The former is stored in "Contact+*structure", the latter in "Contact+*type+*structure". So an alternative solution is to edit these cards directly.
Because the card "Contact" is of type "Cardtype" there is already a default structure for this card defined in "Cardtype+*type+*structure" (it adds the description field you came across and a list of all cards of that type).
At your point 2) when you had a look at the edit menu of "Contact" there should have been the option to edit this structure but it would have been the wrong structure anyway.

Hope this helps,
Philipp

Hi Matthias,

I apologize for the slow reply; I'm currently traveling and will have limited email for the next few days.

To add a structure rule, go to "advanced > rules" and then navigate to the structure section.  Once you've created a structure rule, the "edit > structure" option will appear.

If you have more questions, please consider adding a support ticket; that way the answers will get added to a more public repository.

Hope that helps!

Sorry for this duplicate response folks.  It's my fault, not Philipp's.  He actually sent this message before mine, but I just now "approved" his.

I've missed more than one of these messages needing approval lately, because they were going to the wrong folder, but I think it's fixed now.  My bad!

Fwiw, we're set up with message moderation to keep out spam, not to micromanage discussions.  Once I know someone's not a spammer – which I think is pretty safe to say with Philipp ;) – I "approve all future posts".
