I had suggested high quality treats as well when I suggested her husband Anthony try to be the main caretaker. I hope she is willing to try training at this point..fingers crossed. Subject: Re: Maggie TrainingI can't see any info on her online. We vet our trainers we use to make sure no aversive/forceful training methods so we would need a little more info on her but I'm not sure any of us are convinced at this point.

I think she just thought that over time she would get better. She seemed interested in working with a trainer when I suggested it and I sent her a good recommendation and fee for 1 session with follow up ($165). I only talked to her one time and also suggested hi value treats that only the husband would use. I didn't suggest at all that the rescue would cover it and was just asking for my own

Subject: Re: Maggie TrainingI have spoken to Leah a few times. She truly loves Maggie & gets choked up when we've talked about surrender. She has sent me new pics when asked & I have updated them. Her husband is a real dog guy so Im not sure why Maggie has not warmed up to him. As Amanda mentioned thos was her issue in 1st home. I have suggested he be primary care taker from the start. They do have a young son so outreaches have been tough to attend with other commitments. My understanding is they feel badly for Maggie bc she fears the husband. Training may or may not help. Not sure why they haven't tried one. Their other dog is great too. They both get along well as far as I know.Keep me posted. Thanks~Wendy

They don't even cooperate by sending pictures or videos to try to get interest in the dog.😑

I’m definitely confused as to why they haven’t tried training also. Caren and Wendy, what are your thoughts? I have never talked to Leah so would be better to hear from one of you.

I'm all for encouraging retention of a dog in a home that is making an effort but this does not appear to be the case. They have had months to make an effort, bring to events, etc and have done nothing. Moreover, they adopted her with this problem and then did nothing to work on it From what I could tell at least. Throwing money and training at this problem doesn't seem like it would make any change. I think it's best to get Maggie into foster. But I maybe don't know details.

If they want to give her up, I don't think it's the right resource. Why would we train people who want to give up their dog?

Hi Amanda,
The surrender team has been doing follow ups with our outstanding surrenders and it came up that Maggie may benefit from some specialized training. She is being surrendered for a second time because of her reactivity/fear of men. I know that Wendy and Caren have both suggested training to the current family and for whatever reason they haven’t followed through….maybe they don’t think it would help? Wendy and Caren also both think that with some work they really could be the best family for Maggie because other than the issues with the dad things are going great. Caren knows a trainer that she thinks might be able to help. Do you think that this is something WOI would cover or maybe pay for part of? It would be $165. Caren can give you more info and I’m sure she and Wendy can give you more insight than I can. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks!
