Dear all,

I just read that Google code will be closing down later this year:
http://google-opensource.blogspot.dk/2015/03/farewell-to-google-code.html

Here's the time line:
  • March 12, 2015 - New project creation disabled.
  • August 24, 2015 - The site goes read-only. You can still checkout/view project source, issues, and wikis.
  • January 25, 2016 - The project hosting service is closed. You will be able to download a tarball of project source, issues, and wikis. These tarballs will be available throughout the rest of 2016.

Are there any plans for moving pywafo to a new hosting platform? I have experience with Github and Gitlab, and I think both platforms are excellent. I am also willing to help with the migration (there is an automated Github importer). Since so many other scientific Python packages are on Github, my vote goes to Github.

Best regards,

David Verelst

If there are no other plans, I will go ahead and create a personal fork on Github. Per, do you have any plans, preferences or other remarks regarding a new hosting platform and website? Github can also be used to host a website.

David

From now onwards wafo has a new home at Github under the organization name wafo-project: https://github.com/wafo-project
wafo (Matlab) can be found here: https://github.com/wafo-project/wafo
and pywafo (Python) here: https://github.com/wafo-project/pywafo

At least both Per A and myself will try to keep the pywafo component afloat (but don't expect a new development surge). Personally, what I would like to make happen first is to make pywafo pip installable and create a wheel and anaconda package for easier distribution. Later Python3 compatibility could be investigated.

Per, before Google code goes into read only mode on August 25th, could you add this message to the project home pages of both wafo and pywafo so that people can find wafo's new home?

As far as I know, Google groups is not shutting down (yet?). So we can keep the current discussion platform.

Cheers,
David
