The Companion Chronicles is a sci-fi audio series produced by Big Finish, detailing adventures usually featuring the Doctor, as told by various former companions of his, with only one further voice actor taking part in the narration. It began in 2007 as a mini-series of four stories about adventures of the first four Doctors (none of whom appeared in regular Big Finish audio plays, as William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee died before they began and Tom Baker had declined to participate at that time [citation needed]), but its popularity ensured that it returned for a second mini-series, and then in July 2008 releases became monthly.[citation needed] The monthly series of Companion Chronicles ended in June 2014 but the range has continued with box set releases,[1] these releases focusing on adventures concerning the First and Second Doctors as narrated by their surviving companions.

I would like to preface my argument with the fact that I have seen much of the Empire side storylines. I've seen the warrior line to completion, and the BH/Agents to near completion so I do have a frame of reference. I've also seen the Jedi Knight and Trooper lines.

Now to my real complaints. I am sorely disappointed with the way this storyline was handled. From the get go your character is an underdog and little is ever done throughout the story to remedy that. You're always talked down to, you're never in a position of power despite actually being in one, and you never get a chance to feel awesome. At some point your story needs to reward you for all the hard work you've done and mistreatment your character gets, but this story robs you of that. You never get real resolution and you're left feeling unfulfilled. My biggest complaints in summary are:

This is a biggest one. In the entire arc of the Sith Inquisitor's story you're always under the boot of someone else. At first you have to suffer under Harkun who treats you like utter garbage. You get to leave Korriban with no resolution and when you finally get it it's so late in the storyline that you don't even care about him anymore. Zash isn't much better. You get to be her errand boy/girl for 4 planets knowing that she's just going to turn on you. Not only is this demeaning it's also predictable. Nothing exciting happens while chasing after Holocrons. To top it off you immediately go from Zash's apprentice to minor Lord of the Sith only to have Darth Thanaton breathing down your neck. A darth, soon to be council member, basically gets to treat you like dirt and one-up you for the rest of the game. Terrific.

There are a few other story mechanics that are lame. You get to be hounded by ghosts for the second half of the game. Thought you were going to be powerful? Nope, sorry, turns out you screwed yourself and have to spend time fixing it instead of using your new found to power to do anything cool. Oh and you get a fleet? Sorry, you never get to see that in action either. You get 1 minor cutscene and then the whole point of having it goes out the window. Anything else it does for you it does off-screen and it turns out to just a be liability on Corellia. You don't even see the destruction of Thanaton's base.

I'd also like to add that the cutscenes in general for the Sith Inquisitor are so weak. Compared to the Sith Warrior's cutscenes the inquisitor looks like a stage magician. The Sith Warrior tosses out so much force power in their story it's like playing the Force Unleashed. Meanwhile the Inquisitor gets to shoot some lightning every now and then, but never really shows off their so-called mastery of the force. You might as well be a battery for all the good your lightning does for you as a few of the people you try to shock don't even get affected.

Adronikus Revel would have a hard time trying to be more generic and boring than he is. An ex-republic soldier turned pirate. He has all the generic quirks you'd expect a pirate to have. There isn't much special to his character and you're never really encouraged to care. He's got no unique skills and nothing to set him apart from the pack. I was honestly surprised when he turned out to be my second companion. I thought for sure he was a generic throw away.

Ashara Zavros is the worst companion ever in my opinion. It makes zero sense why she joins you. None. Zip. Zero. You lured her into a trap, she betrays you to the Jedi, you slay them, and suddenly she can't go back to the Jedi order? Really? Why? What business does she have running around with you in your quest for power while you slaughter whole enclaves of Jedi on Corellia? Oh and that ghost you needed her for? Turns out to be an old relative, but I only found because his subtitles told me his name near the end of the game when he speaks to you. And sorry boys and girls, you don't get a chance to turn this Jedi to the Dark Side. Unlike the Sith Warrior apparently you just don't have the touch and at best you can make her neutral towards some aspects of the Empire. Huzzah.

Talos Drellik just sucks. He's so bland, so boring, so uncool that you wonder why he's even a character at all. You don't get an agent, you don't get an operative. No you get an archeologist to join you. He joins you on a whim, which again is a weak plot hook, and just kind of sits there for the rest of your storyline. He contributes nothing and his bland forgetful professor turned sherlock holmes personality is forgettable.

And lastly we have Xalek. What could have been one of the best characters and a saving grace for your storyline turns out to be one of the largest disappointments. Seriously this guy has the personality of a toaster. He has no back story, no interests other than fighting, no quests, and weak dialogue. You could flush him out the airlock of your ship and never even notice he was gone. To top it off he's no different mechanically from Khem Val who you got at level 9. This guy servers no purpose. What a great apprentice he turned out to be. Compared to the Sith Warrior's apprentice this guy is so disappointing it's pathetic.

My other complaint about companions is that aside from Khem/Xalek they don't approve of your evil actions. Really? Pretty sure nobody picked the Inquisitor to smell the roses and if they did they're probably the minority. Why the story forces so many light side characters on your story is a mystery to me. How many dark side characters are on the republic side? The answer: two. Yet the Inquisitor gets two light sideand one neutral. Yay.

And at last we have the end. After all your hard work you get nothing. You don't even get to kill Darth Thanaton. I cannot stress how bad this feels. I don't know what writer at Bioware failed their creative writing and made this ending, but it's sad. You don't rob the player of their victory after 50 levels of taking crap from everybody. Instead of having your moment triumph in a remarkedly tame cutscene you get to watch as some no-name Darth you've seen for 5 minutes kill your rival. What a let down. Why on Earth wouldn't the inquisitor get to kill him? Doesn't make any sense.

Your final cutscene is just a small gathering of people you haven't seen before. Your companions say nothing and do nothing. You get to give one line of dialogue to some generic acolyte you've never seen before. Sure was worth all this effort.

To top it off nobody treats you with any measure of respect or recognizes your station in any of the post 50 content. Bel Savis and Ilum could care less that you're a member of the Dark Council. Nobody cares and you might as well be another generic Sith Lord.

In summary I think the Inquisitor storyline pulls too many punches and robs the player of victory too much. The player never gets a sense of accomplishment and you never get the spotlight in your own story.

TLDR: The Inquisitor storyline makes you always feel like the underdog and there's no reward at the end for it. The companions have weak personalities and plot hooks. You are robbed of victory too much and never get to act like a real Sith.

I get your frustration, they advertised it as if it would be a Palpatine experience, and it seems to be anything but. However, there's nothing that can be done, except reroll another class that you find appealing and wait for a story expansion to come for the SI.
