夏老师,您好!
I'm Stella, my Chinese name is 姜红云。Nice to meet you.
My son Max spent 4 years of high school at Milwaukee living with Alison's cousin Karen's family from 2010-2014. That's why I asked Alison through Karen if she knew somebody learning Mandarin and interested in building an online connection, so our students can practice oral English with your students and vice versa, yours practice Mandarin with ours.
I read the email you sent to Alison and I'm grateful that you'll help us to find some school, individual as well, who would be interested in it. Following please find a short introduction of our library.
ACRE JUNIOR LIBRARY is a private children's library in Hangzhou China. It was established by six families in 2016. The families funded the library and operate it as a corporation, making revenue by selling membership and providing education service to children (age 4~8). Besides, we are developing our own Chinese leveled reading system including leveled reading books, reading accelerate APP, online reading test and book recommendation tools. The APP is expected to be on shelf this autumn and we would like to share it with our partners for trial and advice.
Currently the library has 52 employees, among which 10 for library operation, 12 work on English reading program, 12 on Chinese reading program, 15 on APP development and 3 administrative, offering to more than 200+ loyal members an abundant collection of 40,000+ books in Chinese and English.
Our reading program is proved successful. Many children spend their spare time in the library, reading and meeting friends. Some of them, who are between 7-8 years old and joined us from the beginning when the library was founded, have had an intensive English Reading training for 2 years. They made impressive progress, exceeding even the average level of their peers of native English speaker.( We use the Pearson Level Reading books and Renaissance Learning STAR for assessment.)
Despite the progress, we noticed that not having an English speaking environment made the young learners' speaking skill very limited. Language is a tool that serves to express ideas and thoughts. Reading is the very foundation and speaking is the final destination. At the moment, we are seeking schools, educational institutes or individuals who are facing the same problem in learning Chinese as we do in English to make a long term partnership to practice English speaking for our students and Chinese speaking for American learners. The way to do this is supposed to hold online meetings between the two sides once or twice a month. Starting from an online chat, we believe more opportunities of cooperation will be conceived, more interesting ideas will be exchanged and more life-time-long friendship will be made.
If there's any school, library, educational institute or individual who is seeking a Chinese partner like us, please feel free to give them our contact as below:
