The public transport mess

Allanah McTiernan, who is clearly preparing for another shot at
politics, is looking pretty good because of her efforts to get the
Perth-Mandurah railway going. We should not forget that she had to
crash through some sustained opposition from the road lobby to do so.
The overcrowding of the rail system and the growing clogging up the
road system were utterly predictable. The Barnett Govt has been caught
out because of its ideological opposition to public transport (Labor
is also to blame, but the signs were it was waking up just before it
lost the election).
