Back in the 70's/80's there was a song with a female singer and sung in
English, that had the words "dankershen darling dankershen" in it. The word
was pronounced "dankershane" but I think that the above may have been the
correct spelling.

Does anyone know what dankershen or dankershane means, what language is it
(German?), and what was the name of the song and/or the singer? Thanks

Danke Schoen was sung by Wayne Newton. Here are the lyrics.

'Danke schön' is 'thank you' in German.

What the heck were you doing listening to Wayne Newton?

by Wayne Newton
Danke schön, Darling, danke schön
Thank you for all the joy and pain
Picture show, second balcony
Was the place we meet, second seat
Go Dutch Treat, you were sweet

Danke schön, Darling, danke schön
Save those lies, Darling, don't explain
I recall Central Park in fall
How you tore your dress, I confess
What a mess, that's not all

Danke schön, Darlin', danke schön
Thank you for walks down Lover's Lane
I can see hearts carved on a tree
Letters entertwine for all time
Yours and mine, that was fine

Danke schön, Darlin', danke schön
Thank you for seeing me again
Though we go on our separate ways
Still the memory stays for always
My heart says, "Danke schön"

Danke schön, I'll be the same
Danke schön

You could say Wayne Newton only sang it on a technicality, but he still
might be the girl cobber had in mind...
