Quite often (although not always) when I use Limewire to try and download
files from the Net, it gives me the following message after I type in a
particular search...

"Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not
return results until you are fully connected to the network"

The only problem is that in these particular situations it NEVER does
connect to the network, no matter how long you wait, which means that you
can't do any searches. The graphical indicator for connection quality
remains at one bar indefinitely and when I click on the "Connections" tab
it shows the status of the various hosts as "Connecting". I haven't paid
for Limewire Pro version so I don't get any technical support, but I have
never experienced this problem in the past.

Please help. Anyone know what's really going on here?

I dont use it much at all lately but just got the same result yesterday.

Havent looked any closer at it because I have seen that happen in the past and seen that fix itself later.

Happened to my old man and I disabled the firewall and it connected no
problem after that, then after a few months problem came back and I wasn't
able to fix it the same way. I use pro and have no problems. My partner had
the same intermittent issues too, and I sent her the pro version, and she's
not had the problem since, and the downloads are so much faster too. Here's
a tip. Look for Limewire Pro on limewire (once you do get a connection). ;)

I should have said that I use pro too and I dont use a firewall on that PC.

I've always used pro. Getting that with 4.12

Just tried it again and this time it produce a popup saying that
the PC doesnt not appear to have a net connection, or that a
firewall is blocking access and that it will keep trying.

I should check that the port forwarding is still working I guess.

Latest is 5.1.2, no firewall issues, etc. (So far at least).

Shitty interface though IMO.

At the risk of showing my technical illitracy, how do I find out what
firewall/s (if any), I currently have on my (XP) PC? I my Limewire suspect
it is a firewall issue.

I do have some freebie programs running which stop some of the nasty stuff
eg.AVG Free Anti Virus, Spyware Blaster, Spybot and Ad-aware. Do any/all of
these have firewalls in them and if so how do I stop them from interfering
with Limewire while still doing their job elsewhere? Thanks

My old man's case was a firewall by some virus thing he had installed, plus
the windows one. The windows one is accessed in the control panel. Firewalls
are there for a reason, so proceed at your own risk.

Thanks for that, that fixed it.

I agree with the comment about the lousy user interface tho.
