The magnetic poles have shifted at least 3 times in the last few hundred
million years or so , at one stage , the south pole was in the Pacific
Ocean somewhere between NZ and Sth America.

and seasonal variation in colouration. Saturn's weather is along the lines
of balmy 135K and 500 m/s winds. Uranus is a stange case because
a pole points toward the sun. But we know it has "Roaring 40s" that are
killer, the tops of the clouds are around 73K and the snow is poisonous.
Neptune has cold snaps down to 55K with windspeeds up to 600 m/s.

More likely your magnetic north has shifted.
More than that, they reverse often and move constantly.
The rocks have weather, the average is the magnetic field.
The pole direction is a sum of shifting fields rather than that of a fixed bar magnet, it
can go any way almost at random but probably not instantly, it isn't even necessary there
are two opposite each other.
There is no way at present to know when the next reversal or major fluctuation will
occur, except it has been quiet, too quiet.

And "as hot as the surface of the sun" is not all that hot, either --
between 5000-6000C.
But since iron boils around 3000C there is some interest in exactly
what state the core is in. The overall density of the earth is
not consistent with the core being just "normal" solid iron -- it's
significantly more dense.
But as for the magnetic field "causing" the earth's climate to change --
there is some evidence for that. Incoming energetic particles are
thought to form one source for condensation nucleii in the atmosphere --
there more "cosmic rays" the more clouds and the lower the surface temperature.
The Earth's mag field moderates how many particles reach the troposphere.
Measurements also show there is some effect related to variation in
cosmic rays (i.e. particles) from the sun and the average global temps.

bringnobrainalong, can not possibly perceive of factors such as
enormous pressures giving rise to states of matter not present under
