Hello all,

While having a QSO with Martin VK6ZMS on 1294MHz we turned the power level on the
ICOM IC9700 down to its lowest setting. Was not sure what power level would be but
knew it was not Zero.

The signal level on 10 Watts was way over S9 (10 to 20dB+).
At the lowest power setting the power level is 100mW (FM) as AI says below.
At this power level the signal level between us was S7.
The pre-amp only makes about 6dB increase, which was turned on.
Distance between stations is about 20km.

As said before line of sight makes signals on 23cm great.
Stuff in the way attenuates 23cm a lot, far more than 2m.

We are trying to have at least one QSO a day on 1294.
My station being solar powered and down the back in the garden shed means even if the
9700 is monitoring I would not hear. But give out a call and or monitor 1294

BTW going to Rottnest at the end of July for a few days so hope to create a record or 2
to the Tic Hill repeater if it is up and running. The maximum distance possible from Rottnest
(West End) to Tic Hill is 62km. There is one WW2 radar site that has proved difficult to get to.
The other 2 have been visited so hope on this visit to get to the last one.
