Hello all and apologies for any cross-posting redundancy.
Let's try to make JOTA 2025 a big success. Participation seems to have waned over time, perhaps it's time to rekindle interest.
For JOTA 2025 I am hoping to get some contacts for us with one or more Japanese stations. And the WA VHF Group has a Sister club ("Mates club") with the Pine State Amateur Radio Club located in Bangor, Maine, USA They are keen to establish contact.
Of course there is a time difference issue between us and the USA but if they are willing to try some QSOs during our daylight hours and vice versa then that will be good.
On the Japanese side, you may be worried about a language barrier. Fear not as their education system curriculum includes English and many Scouts, in my experience, really value some extra English language interaction.
I have made a good AR friend in JA-land, Jiri JN6AZR and he is a Scout of long standing, very keen to get some QSOs for and with our Scouts. Jiri is an HF man but I am hoping that he will have something digital like Echolink or Allstar or DMR so that the RF barriers are lowered. His location for 2025 is on a nice mountain top but peppered with lofs of tall trees so propagation could be dicey.
I will ask for times, frequencies and modes if they differ from any hat are published on Scouting websites.
Andrew VK6SWR is Branch Leader for Radio and Technology here in VK6. He indicates that apart from direct RF, that Echolink repeater VK6RSH-R on 70cm will be alive and Allstar Node 668411 is connected to VK6RSH. There should be about a dozen Scout Stations in VK6RSH's coverage area.
Some handy resources thanks to Andrew...
