Heads up... N connectors from Altronics

Hello all,

Intermittent connections involving N connectors.

If you buy N female chassis mount connectors from Altronics (and possibly from Jaycar or our Northern Neighbours?) make sure that you check the positioning of the centre socket.

I recently purchased and used two N females for a 1:1 RF choke balun and experienced intermittent connections.

At first I blamed my crimping of the matching N male connectors onto the feedline but they seemed okay.

So I looked carefully at the depth of the female socket within the chassis mount body.   Both are approximately 2.5 mm deeper into the body than equivalent female N's on commercial adapters and joiners and thus the male centre pins might not always connect.

I will alert Altronics so they can check with their suppliers.

Hope this saves someone a bit of frustration!
