Thanks MarkAs the proud owner of an Ailunce DMR radio, that is not news that I like to hear :-) Especially that Prolific has walked away from their erstwhile famous chip. How about Zadig for doing the USB management job? It certainly does with Win 10 but I see ever-increasing MS insistence that Win 10 is about to go End Of Life and "upgrade now" to Win 11. Sigh.Regards,Denis--On Mon, Oct 6, 2025 at 9:13 AM Mark Dixon <MDof...@outlook.com> wrote:--Thanks Denis.
It looks like two things might be getting in the way for me:
Windows 11, version 24H2 (my current version) seems to have more aggressive USB management to stymie non-Microsoft drivers. Prolific seems to have washed its hands of the PL2303TA version of its own USB-UART chip and that's the one in my "genuine" (as-in comes-in-the-box with the RT-3S radio) programming cable, based on my reading of their v1.9.0 update. Sigh!
I think this means that unless I can install an old version of Windows on an old computer, I might now have two useless DMR radios.
Can anyone suggest a DMR radio I could buy that plays well with Windows (or Linux) and promises to keep doing so?
Cheers, Mark.

Subject: Re: [WAHAMs] Need help with OpenGD77 for Retevis RT-3S DMRHello Mark
Just back from JA land and a bit jet lagged because i do not sleep on aircraft!
The first thing that occurs to me is, what does Windows Device Manager say about the COM port for the Prolific chipset? Can you possibly force it to try another COM port number in case there is some hidden conflict, say with a time when you used your FT991A or some other USB-connected device?
Hope this is some help and not a Red Herring bait..

--I have two DRM radios: a Retevis RT-3S and a Ailunce HD1 DMR from about year 2020.I have had confusing/poor results with both of those radios using the manufacturer's software and now want to use OpenGD77, or any software to get a better set-up experience. OpenGD77 claims to work with the Retvis RT-3S, but maybe not with the Ailunce.
I have the Retevis (Kenwood) cable and the Ailunce (Motorola) cable that were supplied with each of those units.
I have the Prolific USB to Serial driver [v 3.6.81.357 dated 4/09/2015] installed for Windows 11 [That gets replaced by the bad Windows one every so often but when I re-install the Prolific driver it is usually good for a few days before that happens.]
When I use OpenGD77 CPS, with radio type MDUV380/RT3S set on, I can get as far as selecting the donor file which seems to work ok, but can't then get it to "Select Open firmware file and update" to install the OpenMDUV380.zip - I get message "Radio not connected, or not in DFU mode". Neither can I do the Backup Flash/MCU ROM, etc. - I get "Error connecting to the radio". FYI: I do have the radio in Firmware update mode with the cable in very firmly.
I would appreciate a voice call and talk-through from anyone who has successfully used OpenGD77, especially on a Retevis RT-3S.
