Subject: Important Message on PCO Elections

Dear Democratic and Republican Party Chair,

The Secretary of State has proposed that we no longer conduct PCO elections in Washington State.

Unfortunately, YOUR County Auditor also supports the elimination of PCO elections.

James McMahan, the Executive Director of the Washington Association of County Officials, recently testified that ALL the County Auditors in Washington oppose PCO elections:

“In fact the County Auditors are exactly who I am representing today, all 38 County Auditors and the one Elections Director. That is the view you are hearing through my testimony. . . . In light of the Court Ruling, County Auditors fundamentally believe that we should not be conducting a public election for a non-public offices at public expense. . . . We think that, precinct committee officers, if we want them to be elected, they can be elected by the party themselves. “

The Democratic and Republican parties are committed to continuing PCO elections in Washington. We ask that your local party consider passing a Resolution on the subject. Attached is a sample resolution you might start with.

Please let your County Auditor know that you want to continue PCO elections in Washington, and that transparent and accountable political parties matter to you. Thank you for your support for our democracy.
