Last weekend the University of Akron's 443.1125 analog repeater was turned off and a new 443.1125 DMR repeater was turned on. Currently the repeater is low profile at Rick's house in Fairlawn. After some testing it is schedule to be hosted at the University of Akron and will again cover the county. The DMR repeater is currently connected to the K4USD network.
http://www.k4usd.org/ . DMR offers several advantages over analog including the ability to have two separate conversations on one frequency. TDMA supports two time slots. The 443.1125 repeater is currently full time digital DMR and will not pass analog.
There is now a local DMR google groups to help people get started programming radios. The radio of choice is the TYT MD-380 because of it's low cost of entry. There are several other DMR radios which will work, however the 380 is a good entry radio.
