Update on the Smart Smiles 5K event

This morning, I received the message below from the event organizer for the Boys and Girls Club regarding the Smart Smiles 5K race. After hosting the Smart Smiles 5K for the past 19 years, the Boys and Girls Club has made the decision to discontinue this event, effective immediately. They did not offer a reason for this decision.

Thanks to all who have supported this event over the years. Your support has been greatly appreciated!

I wanted to share an important update regarding one of our long-standing events. After 19 incredible years of impact, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula, in partnership with the Smart Smiles Committee, has made the thoughtful decision to sunset the Smart Smiles 5K, effective immediately.

 

This event has been a cornerstone of our health and wellness efforts, and its success would not have been possible without your steadfast partnership. Because of your support, thousands of young people have had access to critical health and wellness programming that empowers them to live healthier, more confident lives. We are deeply grateful for the role you have played in making that possible.

 

While the 5K event itself is coming to a close, our commitment to The Dr. Mayer Levy Smart Smiles Health & Wellness Program remains stronger than ever. We are excited to evolve how we fund and elevate this work moving forward, ensuring even greater reach and impact for the youth we serve.

 

Thank you again for your dedication to empowering tomorrow’s leaders and for being such an important part of the Smart Smiles legacy. We look forward to continuing this meaningful work together in new and impactful ways.
