Airbus Grounds 6,000 A320 jets after solar radiation corrupted the operation of a JetBlue aircraft's Elevator-Aileron Control computer.

Solar storms occasionally send charged particles into Earth’s upper atmosphere, increasing radiation levels at cruising altitudes typically between
30,000 to 42,000 feet.

These particles impacted aircraft computers, leading to corrupted data. In the JetBlue event, such interference caused the ELAC system to trigger an uncommanded pitch movement.

The expected peak of solar activity in Solar Cycle 25, characterized by heightened sunspots, solar flares, and coronal mass ejections is anticipated around mid to late 2025
