Meeting Minutes
CVARC
Alan Zaur K1MZM Secretary
The June 3, 2026 meeting of the Central Vermont Amateur Radio Club was called to order by Chris Knox (KI1P) at 1830 EDST. In addition to our regular members we were pleased to have Kelly Trimble (W0VD) join us as a guest. Kelly is a low residency student at the Vermont Law School who was in Vermont as part of his on-campus residency.
A consensus of the membership is that the “free swap” which was held at last month’s meeting was a success. Everyone is reminded that it is not necessary to bring equipment to the free swap; it is only required that you find something useful to you and take it home! We decided to hold additional “free swaps” about every six months in the future.
Chris (KI1P) agreed to purchase some CVARC tee shirts that we can wear for Field Day. The colors of the shirts will be either black or blue. Members will be notified when the shirts are available.
This month’s repeater update: The 146.82 repeater has been relocated to Burke Mountain and is now linked to Lincoln Peak. Improvements will be made to the 147.39 repeater this weekend.
Our July 2026 meeting will be a club wide POTA activation at Allis State Park in Randolph, VT. Full details will be provided before the meeting but it is expected that the activation will take place on July 1, 2026 at around 5:30 PM and last until darkness and fatigue set in.
Plans for Field Day 2026
This year’s Field Day event will be held at the Old Shelter in Hubbard Park (Montpelier) on Saturday June 27 and Sunday June 28. Our plan is to meet at the old shelter on Friday, June 26 around 1:00 PM to begin erecting the antennas for Field Day. On Saturday we will begin setting up our stations at 10 AM. The Field Day event begins at 2 PM Saturday and ends 2 PM Sunday. Everyone is welcome to help with the setup and operate one of the stations. Members with limited “contest” experience are especially encouraged to attend and operate one of the stations. Lots of help will be available. This was our focus last year and everyone agreed that we had the most fun in many years. Please don’t be mic or key shy: jump right in.
The club decided to order 2000 feet of P-cord in bright colors on spools to support our FD antenna raising effort.
We will have at least three stations available for members to operate on HF. Alan (K1MZM) agreed to bring an Elecraft K3 and an Elecraft K2. Patrick (KC1DPM) will bring a Kenwood 570 and a Yaesu FTDX1200. The club owns a variety of dipole and doublet antennas. Chris (KI1P) has a large selection of Inverted V antennas on his mobile van which will also be available.
Alan (K1MZM) agreed to bring a couple of antenna tuners, several long CAT5 cables, and some mix 43 toroids for RFI suppression.
Jim (K1SCE) agreed to donate some coaxial cables that were part of the estate of a silent key. See below for more details.
Jeff (KC1WLT) volunteered to make pizza with his portable pizza oven. The club will provide pizza dough.
Additional coolers will be needed. John, Jeff and Alan agreed to bring coolers.
As was announced at last month’s meeting, Long time member of CVARC Bill Segel N1DNN has become a silent key. Bill was a skilled general surgeon who was known for his compassion and dedication to his patients. He remained curious throughout his life and was especially interested in satellite and space communications. Jim (K1SCE) has taken responsibility for helping Bill’s widow dispose of his equipment. With Jim’s permission, I have attached the following (partial) list of equipment that is for sale.
