Hello,

Front yard plants were taken from 405 and 407 West 147 Street overnight. What can we do to stop this thievery?

Hi Gerry,

That is terrible news… I think we should inform the police, just for awareness and visibility.

We also have to be vigilant and look out for each other when we see something. Also, I recommend using large/heavy planters for outdoor plants – they are usually spared by the thieves.

Any other ideas?

Happy Juneteenth to everyone!

A RING video door bell can be set to pick up motion as well and alert you with a different sound than the ring of the door bell. It can also record when the motion detector goes off to get a clip of the thief and if you’re awake you can yell at them as well although that’s unlikely. And it’s sad to have to consider but running a chain or a wire cable attached to your flower pots and locked to a door, fence, gate etc can safe guard your plants and front yard possessions.

I understand they also stole a plant and planter from 407.  The planter was cement and extremely heavy.  I could barely move it.  If they managed to take that, they would take anything, including items nailed down.  And having cameras is obviously of no concern to the thieves and not very effective with law enforcement.  My next concern is they will start thieving garbage cans-just cut the chains and roll them away.  Sad!
