Hi Tim, and all ...

So, we have about 50 computers I'd like to move to Vuwer from Prey, but all of them have hidden admin accounts (user id 499) located in /var/.username/ . As you might expect, the install script chokes on that.

Is there anyway to easily adjust the script to accommodate this or to manually install Vuwer? I've looked around but haven't found anything.

Thanks.

I can offer one possible workaround:

(1)  Create a temporary non-hidden admin account on the machine.

(2)  Log in to that temporary admin account and install VUWER.

(3)  Once VUWER is installed, delete the temporary admin account.

Would that work, or am I missing something?

Tim

Maybe ...

My only concern is that when I go into the part where you can enable or disable accounts during the install, the hidden account is not there. But I will try tomorrow from scratch and see if it works and report back.

Thanks for the quick response!

That should not be a problem.  Although the hidden account won’t show up in the enable / disable routine, by default any hidden account will be enabled.  This is a safety feature that I put into VUWER so that it would continue to work if someone succeeded in deleted your user account and replacing it with another.

It appears to be working!

Thanks, Tim! Nice job on this software!
