VUWER users,

A new beta for VUWER is available at: http://stumpy.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/vuwerbeta.dmg

I’ve been told that the VUWER Setup app in this latest version fails on computers with the latest version of Sierra (10.12.6), but I’ve been unable to confirm this.

If you try this beta, please let me know if the installation was successful or unsuccessful.

Try it again, with the same link.  There were some issues with code signing that I think are now resolved.

Same problem -- Avast thinks the wacaw binary is a virus.  I disabled Avast and all went well with the download and install.  I may not be the typical install in that I have gatekeeper disabled.

Your situation is unfortunately a known problem that I can do nothing about.  There are at least two anti-virus makers who incorrectly flag VUWER as malware due to the use of wacaw and Platypus (both open source programs) in the VUWER install package.  The companies in question have ignored all requests to fix this (one of the many reasons why I refuse to use 3rd party anti-virus software).

The VUWER Setup program and VUWER disk image are code-signed to pass Gatekeeper scrutiny and to prevent Sierra’s app translocation security feature from breaking the installer.  The problem I am concerned about is one where the VUWER Setup program simply refuses to run.  I have one user using the latest version of Sierra (10.12.6) who has complained about this, but I am unable to duplicate it on my own test machines.

The periodic email alert I scheduled has the subject:

Mac_mini ALERT: New VUWER version (1.9.2) is available.

The body of the email starts with:

VUWER 1.9.3 updated status at 2017-08-06-151832.
A new version of VUWER (1.9.2) is available at http://stumpy.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/VUWER.htm.

This needs to be corrected?

This is happening because you’re using the beta for version 1.9.3.  As soon as I release the official version (which should be this week), that message will disappear the next time you reboot your Mac.

Yes, I am seeing a hang when answering to use the Camera, and it may be because my MacBook Pro is in clamshell mode at the time of answering that question.
In other words I use my MacBook Pro in either clamshell mode connected to 2 4K displays or non-clamshell mode connected to 2 HD displays. In either case, when I install VUWER and ask for the Camera protection, it should continue to perform the install even if the camera is not current available due to being in clamshell mode.
